@vegelund Great attitude. My tabs change constantly, it's totally impractical to keep backing them up as bookmarks every hour or two. The browser is supposed to retain the session, if it has a bug where it wipes both all tabs and all history, then it is a total failure as a browser. Happy using Vivaldi now...

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@tinnted Yes, I am missing the workspaces icons on the bar, much easier. The other thing I really miss is being able to highlight a piece of text and a context menu popup to copy, search etc. Especially for units translations, like miles to km etc, that's going to be a real pain to no have that.

@rex20d That's insane, clearly a serious bug. Give Vivaldi a go, bit of a learning curve, but worth it I think.

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@tinnted Well, after spending quite a bit of time setting up Vivaldi, I'm done with Opera I think. Vivaldi also has a full email client and calendar, notes, etc, and is extremely customisable. Mercedes even uses it as the default browser in some of their cars.
I've been using Opera almost since it was first released, but this latest version has been a total botch and I've got better things to do with my time than rebuild hundreds of tabs across multiple workspaces because of their buggy code...

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@tinnted Just trying Vivaldi, it's workspaces work more like Opera, so may end up using that...

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@tinnted Ok, just had a look at Edge and seems workspaces is already implemented. It's not quite the same as Opera's system but certainly passable as an alternative.

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@tinnted Hadn't heard they were implementing workspaces in Edge, would be a sad thing to have to go back to an MS product, but if it works, so be it. Opera are really shooting themselves in the foot with this issue.

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
Well, Opera One got me today. Closing a tab, it crashed and wiped all my tabs in all workspaces and history. Have gone back to V99 and disabled autoupdate.
I guess I'm looking for an alternative now...

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@marguerid Opera has definitely gone backwards with the latest version, but I've looked around and never found a browser with all the functionality of it, most aren't even close. I use workspaces all the time, that's pretty much a must-have for me and I haven't seen any other browser with that. Some have tab groups etc, but that's a clunky, half-arsed way of doing it, really don't want to have to move to that system.
Anyone got any suggestions for a viable alternative browser?

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@notlocalhorst It's damned annoying, but seems to be related to sync, do you have sync on or off. I keep it off all the time and use local and cloud backups of all Opera config files, I've always found Opera sync to be iffy at best. I knew the other day when I turned it on that I shouldn't have been doing that way, I won't use it again...

RE: How to control sync direction?Opera for Windows
@ardony The frustrating thing is that Opera is basically the best featured browser out there, I've used it for many years because it is the only one that does what I need, but if they keep messing with it and screwing it up, I guess I'm going to have to go back to FF (shudder) which would be a sad state of affairs.

RE: How to remove the red plus sign in grief on the tabs?Opera for Windows
@leocg If you hover over a tap island, a little red dot appears at the end, and hovering over the dot shows a + sign that drops down a list of tabs in the island. Not sure why you would want to get rid of that, TBH.

RE: [Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/UpgradeGeneral
@notlocalhorst I knew I lost a couple of seldom-used workspaces after the update, wasn't sure it did that, but seems it did.
WTF are the devs smoking with this new version, they've made quite a mess of things...

RE: How to control sync direction?Opera for Windows
@ardony Yes, it's frigging stupid to be quite honest. I set up a new instance of Opera on a virtual machine the other day, and wanted to bring bookmarks, pwds etc across, so I turned on sync on my main version in order to update what was in my Opera account (for later syncing to the new instance) and it grabbed a bunch of bookmarks etc from years ago that must have been in my Opera account, and overwrote some of my updated bookmarks for those sites. It added stuff to the bookmarks bar from many years ago, added in very old tabs closed years ago and generally made a right bloody mess.
Old data should never, ever overwrite new data, ever! If there is a conflict, then the browser should ask which is the correct one, or, as the OP wanted, it should ask which direction to sync.
I'm having serious doubts about the mental capacity of the Opera devs, given the idiotic changes that have happened with this latest update, it's like they not only don't test the thing, they also have no sensible logic in their brains.

RE: Opera One / Changing of size of the tiles in speed dialOpera for Windows
@mrmufa5a Geez, what's with the devs, they have made so many quite frankly stupid changes to this new version. Do they not actually use the app they create, or do they all just use it on tablets and never test the desktop version?
-
RE: Random stuff popping up on speed dialOpera for Windows
@leocg Or, the Dev team could stop adding this random crap that no-one wants.

RE: How do I get the old look back? Do I have to downgrade?Opera for Windows
@meeker-morgan Mine is a win 10 desktop too and always get the animations.

RE: How do I get the old look back? Do I have to downgrade?Opera for Windows
@allanfelipe said in How do I get the old look back? Do I have to downgrade?:
The animation when switching workspaces is indeed terrible. Also there's another thing that annoyed me: the scroll bar doesn't touch the side of the screen. So you can't access it just throwing the mouse all the way to the right.
Yes, another issue with this stupid bubble look and the borders around everything. Too many phone-addicted kids on the programming team, maybe?
