The animation when switching workspaces is indeed terrible. Also there's another thing that annoyed me: the scroll bar doesn't touch the side of the screen. So you can't access it just throwing the mouse all the way to the right.
Yes, another issue with this stupid bubble look and the borders around everything. Too many phone-addicted kids on the programming team, maybe?
@notlocalhorst I knew I lost a couple of seldom-used workspaces after the update, wasn't sure it did that, but seems it did.
WTF are the devs smoking with this new version, they've made quite a mess of things...
@vegelund Great attitude. My tabs change constantly, it's totally impractical to keep backing them up as bookmarks every hour or two. The browser is supposed to retain the session, if it has a bug where it wipes both all tabs and all history, then it is a total failure as a browser. Happy using Vivaldi now...
When I opened Opera this morning and clicked on the address bar, the speed dial tiles that normally pop up, didn't, they don't show now. Speed dials are still there on a new tab, they just won't show in the address bar. Restarting didn't fix it, and Opera is up to date (65.0.3467.48). Anyone else come across this?
Further to this, just noticed that the bookmarks flyout menu (when clicking on the bookmarks icon on the left-hand menu bar) has problems with the bookmarks in my bookmarks bar. The icons are correct, but most of the site titles are listed as "unknown" and many of the URLs show up as just the domain extension, eg ".com.au" instead of the full URL. Hovering over them shows the full URL and clicking them works correctly, just they are displaying incorrectly. Note that the speed dials and "Other bookmarks" all display correctly, with website titles and URLs listed correctly.
It looks like there were some updates yesterday that broke some things...
Same here, this is not a feature, it's a PITA.
@notlocalhorst It's damned annoying, but seems to be related to sync, do you have sync on or off. I keep it off all the time and use local and cloud backups of all Opera config files, I've always found Opera sync to be iffy at best. I knew the other day when I turned it on that I shouldn't have been doing that way, I won't use it again...
@leocg Thanks for that, didn't realise they had deliberately removed them, that's pretty annoying I have to say. I wish all browser manufacturers would stop changing things just for the sake of it or to be seen as cutting edge, when those changes are a step backwards.
My partner has recently dumped Opera and gone back to firefox because of compatibility issues with some sites (her South African net banking simply wouldn't work in Opera) and I have to say, if they keep messing with the interface, I might do the same.
Well, Opera One got me today. Closing a tab, it crashed and wiped all my tabs in all workspaces and history. Have gone back to V99 and disabled autoupdate.
I guess I'm looking for an alternative now...
Agree, not a fan of the new look. I also noticed that while experimenting, I turned off workspaces for just a second, when I turned it back on, all tabs from all workspaces ended up in the main workspace and I had to go through them all and put them back in the right place. I don't recall this happening before, I've turned it off previously without this mess happening.
Why do they have to keep messing with interfaces that already work well? What's with the stupid bubble look, and why is the browser so slow compared to the old version? Might have to downgrade to 99 if they don't add options to turn off the silly animations and the hokey bubble look...
@tinnted Hadn't heard they were implementing workspaces in Edge, would be a sad thing to have to go back to an MS product, but if it works, so be it. Opera are really shooting themselves in the foot with this issue.
@burnout426 The thing is, if you turn workspaces off and then back on, it remembers the workspaces and they just reappear, so why it shifts all the tabs is an odd behaviour, why not just remember the tabs in those workspaces? A single accidental click on the workspaces toggle makes a terrible mess when you have tabs totalling in the hundreds.
@tinnted Well, after spending quite a bit of time setting up Vivaldi, I'm done with Opera I think. Vivaldi also has a full email client and calendar, notes, etc, and is extremely customisable. Mercedes even uses it as the default browser in some of their cars.
I've been using Opera almost since it was first released, but this latest version has been a total botch and I've got better things to do with my time than rebuild hundreds of tabs across multiple workspaces because of their buggy code...
@mrmufa5a Geez, what's with the devs, they have made so many quite frankly stupid changes to this new version. Do they not actually use the app they create, or do they all just use it on tablets and never test the desktop version?
@rex20d That's insane, clearly a serious bug. Give Vivaldi a go, bit of a learning curve, but worth it I think.
Ok, just remembered I've fixed weirdness like this before by deleting cookies, so deleted all google cookies and problem is gone.
@tinnted Ok, just had a look at Edge and seems workspaces is already implemented. It's not quite the same as Opera's system but certainly passable as an alternative.
