Oh rats, there's that cut-n-paste error again. Those two line from the INI file are actually on separate lines.
Thanks for the reply. I really would like to see this work!
I didn't have a "Mail" section in operaprefs.ini, so I added these two lines to the bottom of the file:
[Mail]
Mail Database Consistency Check Time=0
I started Opera Mail, got the Engine Init failed error, clicked on OK, then closed Opera Mail. I did not get a dialog asking to run the consistency check and there is nothing recent in the recovery.log file. Is that INI entry correct?
Thanks for all the help burnout, but I just don't feel comfortable with Opera Mail at this time. Its a shame, since I really do like the interface and the way this is designed. Its a bit scary that the database could somehow get corrupted and there is no tool to repair it, or at least scan it and report what's wrong.
Can't figure out why the above post has all those INI file values on one line. Looking at the file, each line does end with a x0D0A and the layout of the INI file looks normal like any other INI.
Deleted autosave.win. When I go to edit operaprefs.ini, there is no mail section:
Opera Preferences version 2.1
; Do not edit this file while Opera is running
; This file is stored in UTF-8 encoding

omailbase.dat does exist in C:\Users\Johnny\AppData\Local\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\mail.
I could not find any files that were set to read-only.
I'd appreciate any other ideas you may have.
Ok, no problem. BTW, that is some really good information and I appreciate you doing those two writeups. However, I'm having second thoughts about this software now. Started another thread about Opera Mail crashing on startup.
I spent a good part of yesterday doing the manual importing of all my folders from Thunderbird, getting everything just the way I want it. Today was going to be the day I uninstalled TB and went All-In with Opera Mail.
This morning, I boot up and try to start Opera Mail and get the error "There was a problem initializing Opera Mail. Engine Init() failed".
Obviously, I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about this product. What the heck is going on?
Been playing around with Opera Mail, testing some import scenarios. I think I now have figured out just what I need to do to get things configured the way I want them. I need to do a complete uninstall and start from a clean install.
To do this, it looks like I should follow these steps (running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit):
Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> uninstall Opera Mail
Delete folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Mail
Delete folder C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Opera Mail
Delete folder: C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail
Am I missing anything? Does Opera Mail put anything in the registry, and if so, will that be cleaned up by the uninstall?
Really looking forward to using Opera Mail. I love the concept, layout and functionality!
Nevermind about the above question. I just had to save the links and then open them. That's just the info I was looking for.
Thanks guys for all the great info, and its all falling into place now (I think).
Coming from Firefox, I'm really looking for something like the way they implemented tab pages. You could have a set of tabs on a page. When you switch to that page, there are all the websites you were visiting, just as you left them. This was a great way of not having to keep 15 or 20 tabs open on one page.
However, with both Speed Dial and Stash, its a static marker. When you bring up a page you had stashed or speed dialed, it takes you to that page. If you then move around in that website, neither of those entries get updated to where you were, but stay static from the time you added that entry.
Looks like Stash is the closest thing. If I'm going to close a tab, but want to come back to the exact same place at some future time, I need to stash it. However, I would then need to go delete the previous stash entry for that page.
All in all, I'm extremely impressed with Opera! It is SO much faster than FF, and I've yet to have it crash, which was at least a couple times a week with FF.
Just starting to play with the Opera browser for Windows. So far, I really do like what I'm seeing! I'm just not clear on the difference between Speed Dial vs Stash. Can someone give me some examples when to use one or the other, or point me to some kind of writeup explaining scenarios when to use either one?
Thanks for the info. This is just 2 POP accounts. I beginning to like the idea of not having so many folders, so this isn't a big deal. Just checking to see if I missed something.
BTW, when I click on either of those two links, either in Opera 20 or Firefox 24, it does indeed prompt me to save the file. What do you mean by "Open those mhtml files locally"?
Started an import into Opera Mail (v1.0 b1040) from Thunderbird (v24.4) last night, and this morning it was on a window with the "Finish" button. I assumed it was successful. However, when I go to Opera Mail, I don't see any of those emails.
According to the documentation:
Your imported account's folder structure displays under the Labels header in the Mail panel.
Am I missing something obvious?
Perfect. Just what I was looking for! However, the file I found is operaprefs_default.ini, not just operaprefs.ini. Should that one exist?
Is there any documentation on other options we can tweak in that INI file?
Just downloaded and am testing Opera Mail 1.0 Build 1040.
Each message I download has "This message contains blocked images". Rather than having to click "Always load..." for every email, there has to be a global setting somewhere to allow all images, but I can't find it, and web searches seem to pertain only to the Opera Browser?
Anyone know where that setting is?
Thanks
