Oh rats, there's that cut-n-paste error again. Those two line from the INI file are actually on separate lines.

I didn't have a "Mail" section in operaprefs.ini, so I added these two lines to the bottom of the file:

[Mail]
Mail Database Consistency Check Time=0

I started Opera Mail, got the Engine Init failed error, clicked on OK, then closed Opera Mail. I did not get a dialog asking to run the consistency check and there is nothing recent in the recovery.log file. Is that INI entry correct?

Thanks for all the help burnout, but I just don't feel comfortable with Opera Mail at this time. Its a shame, since I really do like the interface and the way this is designed. Its a bit scary that the database could somehow get corrupted and there is no tool to repair it, or at least scan it and report what's wrong.

Can't figure out why the above post has all those INI file values on one line. Looking at the file, each line does end with a x0D0A and the layout of the INI file looks normal like any other INI.

Ok, no problem. BTW, that is some really good information and I appreciate you doing those two writeups. However, I'm having second thoughts about this software now. Started another thread about Opera Mail crashing on startup.

I spent a good part of yesterday doing the manual importing of all my folders from Thunderbird, getting everything just the way I want it. Today was going to be the day I uninstalled TB and went All-In with Opera Mail.

This morning, I boot up and try to start Opera Mail and get the error "There was a problem initializing Opera Mail. Engine Init() failed".

Obviously, I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about this product. What the heck is going on?

Been playing around with Opera Mail, testing some import scenarios. I think I now have figured out just what I need to do to get things configured the way I want them. I need to do a complete uninstall and start from a clean install.

To do this, it looks like I should follow these steps (running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit):

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> uninstall Opera Mail

Delete folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Mail

Delete folder C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Opera Mail

Delete folder: C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail

Am I missing anything? Does Opera Mail put anything in the registry, and if so, will that be cleaned up by the uninstall?

Really looking forward to using Opera Mail. I love the concept, layout and functionality!
