With this i actually agree... I laugh every time when reading that kind of statement...

No, then Opera 23 is ready with allmost all features from Opera 12.
And... you woken up from your silly little dream... version 23 and most features returned... more like version 83 if ever... guess you didn't pay to much attention to the current progress of blink opera.
The sad thing is that a single person made greater progress(starting from 0) in half a year then the whole desktop team in over year(they probably started the work a lot earlier then the announcement - having chromium as a base)... -
RE: bye operaOpera for Windows
After messing with the link option to fined out if you can delete all the data your self(preparing for the inevitable) i lunched o12 with a new profile and i got a popup about an update to the blink opera with a message:
(my crappy translation)
"We added new exciting features, that give you more speed, better workflow organization and more personalization possibilities..."
And i fell of the chair, i know that advertising yourself is a must... but come on, there should be a limit to what b***** you can write... -
RE: How do I bloc ads in Opera 19?Opera for Windows
You install a bloated extension that noticeably slows down rendering of a page...

RE: Opera Freezes CompOpera for Windows
If its on windows the first thing i would suggest before doing anything else is chkdsk /R.

Remaining with an OS that is more than a decade old is simply foolish "if" you can afford to move forward. If you can't... well... there's really no option.
I agree withe the first part... but windows is not the only operating system. Depending on the usage you can have a faster, more secure, reliable and up to date system for free.

RE: "Create Search..." does not work on Google MapsOpera for Windows
When creating the search in the address field paste
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%s&sourceid=opera

My only guess is that the (crappy)discover option did that.

I try to customize ff as much as possible without addons and now i'm messing with about:config

"browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab" seams to do the same.
Changing
"general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel.durationMaxMS" to 150
and "general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel.durationMinMS" to 100 seems to improve scrolling with my touchpad. The scrolling feels more like in opera. -

Jumps to and highlights those links just fine here -O12.16

If we are to take the company's current tagline "we are concentrating on our strengths" literally, then this must indicate that after a feeble attempt at a Chrome clone they will dump desktop browser for good
Looking at what they are doing now, selling fastmail, closing my opera i would say that that's pretty plausible.
For now the desktop browser is one of the main sources of income. But if it will continue the way it is now...
Or as von Tetzchner said they'll focus on the advertising business. -

"Some of these missing features will come back, some will be available through extensions, but there is no expectation that extensive customizability will return as it was before"
"The company intend to offer more features to our users than Google Chrome offers. In same time we don't want to do hard work on stuff that nobody will use"
"We absolutely disagree with a negative feedbacks on suspected "cloning" of Google Chrome. Now we are Blink's developers just like Google"
"As for the similarity of Opera and Chrome, an average users shouldn't feel the difference here, at least because of browsers icons are different"

RE: How Many Bookmarks Do you Have?Opera for Windows
Bookmarks: 620
Folders: 82Originally posted by Pesala:
That will count the number of bookmarks + folders. Close, but no cigar.
To check the exact number of bookmarks you can try this:
Export bookmarks as html file, open that file in opera and enter the following in the adressbar.javascript:alert('Bookmarks: '+document.querySelectorAll('a').length+'\nFolders: '+document.querySelectorAll('h3').length)

Opera Blink is not and never was a Chrome clone. Not even the UI is the same.
Yea, sure cloning the source code repository and applying some patches/modifications to it doesn't make it a clone... I laugh everytime when i read that the new "opera" was created from scratch...
Originally posted by LeoCG:
And...? They are based on the same engine and that is just it, they are not clones.
No, both new opera and chrome are based on the same browser(chromium) with applied patches, that's a lot more then just an engine.
And just because of that, it never will have all the features of o12 - it would require to much effort to keep up with chromium. In the worst case scenario it would require to fork the code which would make the whole "moving to chromium" pointless...Originally posted by Al-Khwarizmi:
It doesn't have the customizability of Opera
(Firefox) Actually it is a lot a lot more customizable then opera ever was/will be. Unfortunately it's not as easy as in opera if you don't want to use extensions.

And its ugly as hell... i don't want to compromise the user experience for features. I'm a greedy bastard and want them both...
If not opera then the only real alternative is firefox... Most of what i want/need can be achieved without extensions the biggest problems are the sidepanel, mail/rss and the new ui that is planed which brings new restrictions... if it was not for that i would use it already and wouldn't be wasting my time here.
There are other small projects like midori or qupzilla but...
