@stolis I couldn't agree more! Users should have the choice, which virtually every other program, let alone browser, offers.
I seem to have gotten lucky this morning, or at least Opera finally came through with suspension of the 102 update, since I have my tab islands as I left them last night, and the rolled-back version still operating. I hope it stays that way.
@kmara I couldn't agree more--there's no excuse for this kind of botched "upgrade". They've been around long enough to know and do better.
I finally managed to do the roll-back, and have both copied my data into several spots and imported it into Vivaldi. This didn't give me back my tab system, but better than nothing if Opera fails again. Plus I'm copying some of the most essential into Vivaldi, which I hope won't lose them.
It's ridiculous that I now have four browsers installed--Opera, Vivaldi, Firefox and Chrome. I refuse to use Edge, it's horrible--much worse than IE ever was & it was no great shakes.
Now, let's see what happens when I try to open Opera tomorrow. Nothing dire, I hope. Lost time that could have been much better spent than doing this.
@gmiazga if it's any help to you, Opera opened unexpectedly, with the blank profile, when I was trying to open another program (WordWeb Pro) which wanted to send me to its update site. Normally, this would open my existing Opera profile, but this time I got the singing O and the blank profile. I may have been caught in the middle on this one. Still need a good fix though.
@burnout426 thanks. When I next have a chance I will try your suggestions. Maybe not for a few days, but I'll try to get there.
I hope Opera developers are taking note of this fiasco and it won't happen again.
@burnout426 on my PC, there is no CertificateRevocation or Opera_shutdown_ms.txt in the Opera Stable directory, which I hope are not critical files (they don't look like it). However, it looks like most of the files you list are in the Default folder. I'm not sure what this means. Also, I don't see a Cache or System Cache in any of the Opera-related folders.
I'm wary of the deletion you suggest. As you can tell, while I'm a long-time Opera user, I'm by no means an expert, and I find the instructions in this thread confusing. Is there no simpler way to roll back the changes? Something like this should be in a recovery option. I have been able to restore tabs and tab islands before, when accidentally closing a multi-tab instance before a single-tab one, but this "upgrade" is a total shambles.
I won't be able to work on it any more for a while, but I hope that by the time I get back in somebody will have found a simpler fix.
@sklunk one more thing. Can I have two instances of Opera running, that is install 101 before uninstalling 102? For those of us not at the high end of tech savvy it would be helpful to have more information. (Yes, I have my PC plugged in & turned on LOL)
@sklunk my system doesn't give me the option to retain my data when uninstalling. Is it possible to restore sessions and tabs from the sessions folder? Or is there any other way? I don't want to uninstall Opera 102 only to find that all of my data is gone.
@opera-comments-bot I am extremely unhappy since your latest update (this morning) successfully deleted my entire history, bookmarks, and active tab islands. Boo to autoupdates, we should have a choice!

@leocg where do I find it? I've checked the online resources and found nothing called "task manager".
For the past few weeks, Opera has been excrutiatingly slow, and the speed dial page shows the name on the tab but fails to load -- all I see is a white screen. While working in other tabs, I have had multiple crashes "ceased working due to a problem" or "out of memory" and have had some difficulty reloading the page, or else it crashes again right away. Opera also seems to be using an inordinate amount of memory, like about 50% of my 8 GB. Is there a fix for this?
@leocg I finally located the option for pdf files, after a long search. It was definitely an Opera-specific thing. Fixed now, thanks. Opera hides a lot of stuff, I've found.

Is there a way I can get this to do what it used to and open a dialogue with Adobe Digital Editions? Or even open the pdf in another window?
I use HTTPSeverywhere, could this be an issue?
