So, hello everyone.

I thought it would be great if Opera let people use colors on tabs. If You click with right mouse button, the context menu would have few new options.

• Rename tab
• Change tab color
• Reset tab name
• Reset tab color

It would allow people to set custom title of that specific tab and set RGB color. Background tabs would have different shade of course, so it would be easier to distinguish active tab. Feature would be rather optional, so people who don't need it, won't have to use it. But people who want, would be able to sort tabs with colors.

Also two different things. Please, enable pinning tabs without making them so small. Would be great if there was option in settings to set default width of pinned tab.

• Icon only (as it is now)
• Small (maybe half of the size of regular tab)
• Normal (the same as non pinned tab)

Also, in Small and Normal setting, the tabs would have some kind of outline for example or something else that would make it distinguishable from non-pinned tabs. Maybe the lock icon or something.

The second thing is Tab Groups. This was the feature that Opera and Firefox had in the past. But both browsers for some reason scrapped the idea. Actually the first browser to ever had that feature (at least as I know) was Internet Explorer (and ironically... it also was the first to have tabs and to have colored tabs).

It's something that would be very useful. For me and for many other people. Please, consider adding it in the nearest future.

@leocg Stupid question. But how do I create a new account on Windows 10? All I can do is change my current account. I never really had to do this before, so I completely doesn't know how to do it.

About different ISP, You are actually lucky I have internet connection on my smartphone, otherwise I couldn't check this.
But nope. I disabled ethernet connection I use all the time and made wifi router via bluetooth on my smartphone and connected my PC to it. But it works the same. Still greyed out etc.

I also asked my sister earlier, she lives in different place, but has the same ISP, if she uses Opera. She does and I asked her if she can update the browser. She could have and it worked as desired.

@burnout426 My old notebook had... I think AMD? I'm not sure. My old desktop PC had Intel, but don't remember which exactly. Wait, I may have saved it on my documents. Yes! I had i5-4590 on previous PC. And currently I have i7-10700K.

I use english Windows in Poland region. But I kept dates, clocks and keyboard polish. So generally everything I see is written in english, but Windows know I am from Poland and dates/hours are all in polish. Also I think some other things are written in polish. For example my local group is not called Administrators but Administratorzy (which is the same word in polish).

And no, USB Opera didn't work. I will try installing Opera in regular path, without changing anything on new user, when I figure out how to make a new account in Windows 10, as I never did that before, because I never needed to do so. The last time I needed multiple users were in XP, however I did this in Vista or Seven too. Maybe 8. Not sure. But since I didn't really need it, I haven't used multiple accounts for very long time. I will try to search for it in Google. Then will try installing Opera as mentioned above.

I also want to add one more thing. Just updated Opera to 83 version and got the default upgrade tab opened in browser. What I read there was advertising of Opera.

And here's a problem. Opera used to be the great browser, because it had most functionality. But all features were cool. I always loved it that Opera had more things, but not of them were bloated. Unfortunately it changed. It says That it has build-in ad-blocker, free VPN, integrated messengers, crypto wallet and so much more.

So what do I want to say? Almost every of those mentioned features are bloat features. Built-in ad-blocker in Opera is bad. I used to use AdBlock, which was already superior to Opera ad-blocker. I tried to turn off AdBlock addon just to find out that Opera doesn't block even half of the ads AdBlock did. I use even better ad-blocker now, uBlock Origin, which I will really recommend to anyone. As for free VPN, not only it's also bad, but it's just a proxy. Most sites still knows where are You from. Crypto wallet support is bad, because crypto currencies are scam. So being proud that You support such thing is rather funny. What's next NFT in Opera? This would surely make me quit forever. I'm really surprised that crypto wallet didn't.

But what does it have to do with tabs? Everything. The whole advertising is saying that Opera is better, because it has what Chrome and other default browsers doesn't. While literally refusing to add tab groups, which Internet Explorer had in 2011 and Chrome has now. And the reasoning is "no, because we have workspaces". I don't give a hecc about workspaces. I want tab groups. So the whole Opera offers a complete web experience you can’t get from system defaults such as Chrome, Safari and Edge sentence is just an irony. Because it used to be true. It still have some functionality other browsers doesn't. But for God's sake. Tab groups and colors for them is what people ask for and Opera refuses to add giving stupid excuses.

Opera is the most bloated browser right now. It has features that nobody asked for, but don't want to add features people beg for.

@ddl Yes, I know. And it's sad that Chrome can do this but Opera is like "Nope! We won't do what people want! We have our workspaces that are not useful for most people, but we're proud of it, so we won't do group tabs with colors!"

I really fell in love with Opera because it was a browser with most functionality. Comparing it to any other browsers it was always superior. Even now their search engine functionality is better than Chrome. Chrome for example doesn't have POST option to set there, which I was really surprised for. It even has a small details that You press F8 and it takes You to address bar. Chrome do not do that and I was surprised too because of that.

But they started to add trash features like pseudo-VPN which isn't really a VPN but some proxy that doesn't even work like 90% of times, crypto wallet, which is stupid etc.

Workspaces would be useful, but come on... this isn't thing people want. Tab groups are far more useful and Chrome did it perfectly.

Just look at that! Colored grouped tabs. With names! And You can easily hide them. So easy and intuitive. User friendly feature. It's literally like workspaces but with better visuals, name indicators and easier access. I don't need to hide things in a workspace I would forgot it existed. This is the feature I want to see in Opera. Because this is what I want, need and would use so much. And I never used workspaces even once. I forgot it even exist. I added something to workspace then I forgot about it completely.

I hope people at Opera will change their minds, because Google people are making Chrome useful at least. Without adding pseudo features like crypto wallet or fake VPN thing.

I just want to say, that the issue hasn't been resolved, even after I clean installed everything. Even with registry cleaner and everything. I removed profile and cache, installed everything from scratch and nothing. I even not changed default installation path, so maybe it will work. But nope.

The reason why I never replied after that is just because I'm very sick and tired of trying to do ridiculous things that won't work over and over again. This issue isn't from my side by any means. Opera is the only program that can't auto update for me. Not even third party software that checks newest version has seen Opera in "there is new version, let's install it". It keeps installing Java or Firefox from time to time, but Opera is never on the list of updates in that program. And the thing that it's been on two, maybe three different devices is just a proof that it has nothing to do with my settings. Because even clean install doesn't work. On my current PC, the Opera never has been working in the update thing. Even though I clean installed it when I first got my PC.

I really want just a solution that will work. Why do I have to stress out and try annoying things, just to make browser works as intended? It should be working right after installing. And I can understand that it can just not work sometimes. But it doesn't work for whole year on this PC and before that it didn't work on previous PC either. Even after clean installing few times and checking stuff. I don't really have time to spend hours, days, months to keep fixing a browser, that just doesn't work for no reason.

And yeah, I am rather annoyed by that fact. When I was trying to fix Opera month ago for 2 weeks, nothing helped. I have other things to do with my life than trying to fix browser for that long.

@jojo0587: Exactly. This addon is obsolete, as Opera has native support for Chrome extensions.

@burnout426 I don't want to lose my data again. I already told that. The last time I made a clean install, I lost something important. And I don't want to lose it again. I have thousands of tabs saved on Opera. Not going to lose neither them, nor the speed dial. Opera sync is not always working as intended.

@burnout426 I have 4 things. I already thought that it may be the case as I could potentially disable any autoupdate tasks, as I do with all programs. But it never caused all the mess for any of the program. if I disabled Flash Autoupdate, it just didn't autoupdate, but I could update it manually. When I disabled Chrome autoupdate task, it just didn't update on its own but I could update it manually. But here I can't manually check for updates.

But the things I got in task scheduler are...

Opera scheduled assistant Autoupdate (some number) - Ready
The same thing but with different number - Disabled
Opera scheduled Autoupdate (third number) - Ready
The same as above with fourth number - Disabled.

So, there are two ready, two disabled, though the update doesn't work on any Opera I have.

Also yes. I never install programs on default paths, unless the program doesn't let me change them. And browsers have its standalone paths too. D:\Browsers. I had this now, last time... but I don't remember the time before last time. Definitely wasn't it the D:\Browsers but it could be custom path too. So yes, my installation path isn't standard one. Also I avoid installing anything on C:\ drive, because C is for system. Now I got bigger SSD, so it's for games too. But I don't install anything else or use it for anything else. C:\ is System/Games disk. D:\ is for the rest.

@leocg I will try that later, because I'm a bit busy right now. But I want to say that I have two sync accounts. Stable Opera has one and the second one is to have different tabs synced between Dev And Beta. I once considered the problem may be because my main sync account has almost 10k synced things. It says 5865 boomarks and 1593 speed dials. I once lost either one of them, that's why i don't want to fresh install. I will try standalone installation later, but You can see, it's many things to lose. I don't use most of them, but it's hard to actually clean that much. But it's not the problem, cause the another account has maybe 20 things synced, as I actually doesn't need there that much things. So if that would be the cause, it would surely doesn't affect Dev/Beta.

I tried multiple things already. it's not like I just waited it for solve itself. I tried fresh installs, especially when I changed PC or when I lost my SSD hard drive with AppData etc. And as once I lost my data (bookmarks or speeddial) doing that, I am just afraid it will occur again. I tried cache/cookies wipe but it didn't help either. Nothing I did for that, was actually working. I got my new PC not a whole year from now. I think it was June last year. And since it was completely new device with new disks, I fresh installed everything. And the auto update doesn't work. The only thing I do not standard way is path. I may have later disable scheduled autoupdate, as I already said earlier, but iirc it didn't work from the start before I could have done that. I didn't use the program that did that from the beginning of using my new PC, so it has to be unchanged. I actually change more than just that, I even change Desktop, Videos, Music and other default folders to be on D, instead of C. As I am the only user of the PC, I don't need standard template path, so I use custom one for most of the things. I couldn't change path for installing programs though, because it either doesn't work or I didn't even try googling that it may cause problems, because Windows doesn't want people to do that. I know for sure, that if I swap AppData to another folder, the user will stop working and I couldn't even use Menu Start. But yeah, I don't like standard paths, because they are not only on C:, but also they are so messy. Having programs in two different paths without sorting them. So I install things on specific locations. Browsers, as mentioned above, have its own folder. Except for that I don't really do anything peculiar. That's why it bugs me why does it occur.

@leocg I'm trying this now, but I actually can't understand how would it help. I mean. If it will work, it won't solve problems, as it's literally standalone thing, doesn't have anything to do with my PC. And if it won't work, then well, it will be even worse.

And well... it still doesn't update. Still grayed out, still checking for updates for eternity. So standalone USB Opera works the same.

@burnout426 Yes, that's more or less how those paths look like. And I am the administrator, so basically I should have access to all the folders. And the permissions shows that admins does have write permission in those folders. Also that's what I expected, as I have my desktop set in D:\ as I mentioned earlier. And yeah, all the folders in that disk doesn't deny the access for me in any way.

Though... You mentioned that log files. And I checked opera_autoupdate.txt from various folders with numbers. Should I copy the whole thing what it's there? There are some errors. COM init failed and unable to acquire locks. Or unable to create IPC as client in another one. Most of it looks similar, but some has additional lines etc.

About the Windows account, I use MS account. But it says that local groups membership is Administrators. As it should.

Also my D:\ drive is NTFS.

@leocg It would be weird if it meant my current installations, if the problem last for three different devices with mroe than 3 fresh installations. I at least did fresh install myself, I also had to fresh install few times when I installed Windows from scratch. I don't say it always was greyed out, but problems with updating in various ways persisted through years.

Also yeah. If You mean just installing the Opera on USB stick, then I did that, opened it and immediately went to update page, to check if it works. Without setting anything.

@saskatchewan I am really glad it worked. I've actually seen Your reply few days ago, but didn't have anything to add, waiting for the new version to appear. Still, the Opera didn't update it to the 1.30, as it's listed as 1.20 to me. I hope Opera will update it soon, because it was one of the best addons here. Simple, but made life easier, as someone who browses multiple languages on Wikipedia

@saskatchewan Still, thanks for making this addon in the first place. Was very useful to me for years. Sometimes changes that seem to be just small are more complicated, like that language list. Would be cool if You could fix it, but don't push too hard. Nobody would blame You, because it's not Your fault that it was changed that way have a nice day.

@jrmenzon-0 Wikipedia changed layout, so obviously it won't work, because it adds text to the title of an article. Addon must be updated in order to make it work again.

And I don't know if there will be a fix. It's very old addon, it might be abandoned. Hopefully I am wrong, but I wouldn't set my hopes high.

It's one of my favorite addons. Any chances of this being made as Chrome Extension? I use many browsers but Opera and Chrome are the most used and I would love to have that addon here too.

@mike88 Yeah, I considered stopping using Opera too. It has some cool features, but Chrome has some similar things and maybe not all are there, but e.g. addons are better and native (because Opera often has to use it thanks to "Install Chrome Extensions" addon). Also people were asking for tab groups, which are very useful, yet we were told it's not needed. I'm not really convinced by that reasoning. Because Opera has workspaces. Btw, Firefox had them too (like 5 years ago or earlier?) but for some reason they removed that feature. Because it was maybe not really useful. But tab groups is what many people want.

I really consider not using Opera as primary browser because of that. Chrome has many features Opera does and often works better. And since I have already Chrome and 20 other browsers installed, it's not really hard for me to swap them.

I wish Opera had more user-friendly approach. Instead "we do what we want to do and if people ask for feature, we will deny because Opera has better feature". And I'm not going to lose my nerve and time to try to fix problem that is definitely on Opera's side. it's impossible that two different computers magically doesn't want to update, even when one of them was brand new. And I think my old laptop, which now has dead screen, so I can't check it, had similar problem too. So, come on. What can I do if anything logical doesn't help. And every other program I ever used have autoupdates working well. Every browser. Just not an Opera...

There is a feature I would miss, though, which is My Flow. But I can always use Discord for that. It's useful but not irreplaceable. And since some sites doesn't work for me on Opera (like Quora), but works in any other browser... I don't really know why's that, but I don't want to wait till it resolves itself. Chrome works in more cases than Opera. And Opera doesn't want to fix the very basic feature, which is updating the browser.

I'm waiting till Opera starts to care for people. When they fix the updater and adds the tab groups... I will be more glad to use it.
