This is a clear message to Opera Developers that you have taken away an essential usability aspect of the browser that users have relied on for years, and are now missing.

Why relocate it to some remote difficult location in the menu hierarchy? Was an incorrect assumption made that the recently closed pages/tabs button was not being used? Based on what data?

As an Opera user since version 3, and long time Developer and usability expert, I do speak up when I see a bad decision, and this is definitely one of them.

Please encourage the Developers to restore this essential feature in the near future. I used it regularly and it's obvious from the overwhelming consensus here, that I'm not alone.

So can anyone comment on exactly what "Rich Hints Agent" is, and why it suddenly needed additional permissions? And why is the ability to act on this "Extension upgrade requires additional permissions..." user prompt see the offending extension bizarrely hidden from user interaction to address it? Or why you can't disable the extension, or deselect "Allow access to search page results"?

As was mentioned by another user, searching for information on "Rich Hints Agent" comes up with nothing. Not exactly comfortable to learn that there are several hidden extensions operating in the background, with no transparency on their purpose, or what data they are sharing without my explicit consent.

Hopefully a Dev will see this thread and provide some clarity.

@leocg Happy to hear it looks clear to you. Perhaps your eye sight is perfect, but not everyone's is (mine isn't). And not everyone will have the same contrast/brightness setting on their computer - this is a variable that can drastically affect the contrast between active/non-active tabs.

While I don't believe that developers can account for every variable, I do believe there can be additional contrast added for active tabs so that usability is not an issue. Right now it clearly is a usability issue, otherwise users would not be reporting it.

@leocg whether it is serious or not is totally beside the point. Using a private window is not a solution to fixing the usability issue that exists in the dark theme. And using a private window is not a replacement the dark theme. AT best it's a temporary workaround.

Yes, it does seem to be working properly again.

If the VPN servers were down temporarily, it's odd that Opera would hang when trying to clear browsing data while there's a VPN issue.

Significant problems with VPN enabled. Opera Version:68.0.3618.63 stable.

1. Cannot access any websites while VPN enabled.
2. Cannot clear browsing data while VPN enabled - Opera hangs and never completes this operation.

Restarting then disabling VPN allows both items to work normally.

Don't want it so visible? Where did you read that? Can't see it being a design decision. It would make no sense to design a feature that users can't see or properly interact with.

Agreed, not enough contrast, so it's a clear usability issue.

It's more noticeable on some monitors, because not all of us have their monitor brightness and contrast maxed out.

Solution: Increasing the contrast on active tabs will help prevent accidentally clicking or closing the wrong tab - this happens a lot due to the poor contrast.

This strange bug has persisted for a long time, I hope it gets fixed soon. I like the news feature, but it's difficult to justify turning it on in the speed dial, when it gets pushed so far down the page, forcing you to scroll down to see it. This is obviously not the intended or desired behavior. It should butt up to the bottom of the speed dial links.

Here's why I believe this is happening, and why it should be a relatively simple fix.

If I'm not mistaken, this happens on monitors that have a different aspect ratio (or when the browser window is resized). It works fine on some monitors, but if you have a different sized monitor (in proportion to width), the news section gets pushed way down as in your screen shot. You can replicate this (on larger monitors) by resizing the browser window to change the aspect ratio (eg. from landscape to portrait dimensions). As a Developer myself, I believe there is possibly some incorrect CSS positioning happening in speed dial UI that is responsible for this bug which does not take other monitor configurations into consideration. This should be a relatively simple UI fix. It would be nice to use the news in speed dial, but don't because I don't want to have to scroll down every time to see it.
