New Opera beta 30

  • The Opera 30 has been promoted to the beta channel: 30.0.1835.18 ;-)

The change log, and the announcement: Sidebar and tab improvements in Opera 30 beta.

"Today, we have an interesting update to our beta channel, with sidebar extensions, a tab cycler and improved tab menu. Try them out if you browse for serious stuff — work, research, or entertainment."

Sidebar extensions for unlimited use cases

"Our new sidebar allows you to install dedicated extensions that you can use whileyou browse. Have you been missing notes? Now, you can install this extension and use it in our sidebar."

"Here, you can find a list of our sidebar extensions. We hope you’ll make it much longer soon. The sidebar brings you unlimited possibilities for improving productivity. Sidebar extensions work almost like a standalone app and can respond to your current browsing, or to any other activity you don’t want to lose focus on while browsing, such as score checking.

You can enable the sidebar via the menu or keyboard shortcut:

Windows: Opera menu → Extensions → Sidebar (Ctrl+⇧Shift+s),

Mac: View → Show sidebar (⌘⌥s)."

    Tab cycler for serious stuff

"We promised to enrich tabs with new, interesting options. And, we have done a lot in this area recently, with the release of tab preview, tab menu and tab syncing. Now, we have added a powerful tab cycler, so you can switch tabs much more easily.

You can now switch tabs by the order in which they were active. With an improved tab menu, you can change the order based on which tabs were recently used. So, it’s not just switching from right to left anymore. You can even change the default keyboard shortcuts to cycle tabs by the order you’ve used them.

If you still prefer to cycle tabs from left to right, according to the tab bar, we’ve added a few shortcuts for you. On Windows and Linux, press Ctrl + 1/2 to cycle visually. On Mac, press ⌘ + ⇧Shift + ←/→.

Or, you can change the tab cycling order in Opera’s Settings page. In Settings, select Browser > User interface > Cycle tabs in most recently used order."

    Improved tab menu

"Also, our improved tab menu features two new sections: Recently-Closed tabs and Other Device tabs. With the Recently-Closed section, it will be easier for you to find a webpage you have accidentally closed. And, if you have an Opera account and sign into the browser from another computer, you’ll see all your open tabs under the Other Devices section."

  • Beta 30.0.1835.18 crashed MSE & H.264 on YouTube html5.
    opera://flags/#mse-h264-support OFF helped me.

  • Is it on by default?

  • Hi,
I have created my opera account just to comment that I don't like/hate some of the new changes in the UI of Opera Next
1)When I wanted to comment that I didn't like the change of [ctrl+Tab] to go to the previeous one if is pressed just one time (luckily i have found in settings to change that)

have found the second problem, by restoring visited page that auto-opened after the update(opera page/forum)

2)The Recently Closed wasn't where it was as always in the OPERA Menu as logically under the tabs operation,
and its very annoying when having 300+ tabs and I am in the middle or at the last tabs to Recover some old tabs I have to scroll to the first tab then to access it because its on the top of all tabs.

    1. the tabs list it's always popping when using Ctrl+Tabs or Ctrl+Shift+Tab

    Thank you

  • Is it on by default?

    Yes.

  • Its great that it could be bypassed 3) by relearning to use it with ctrl+2, ctrl+1

  • Java not works on 30.0.1835.18 build. Tested on several Java versions (7.55 and 8.42) on two computers with windows 7 Pro and Ult. After rollback to 29.0.1795.41 build, all works without any additional changes.

  • New build for the Opera beta - 30.0.1835.26, the change log, and the announcement ;-)

"This update is mostly focused on fixing AU problems on Windows XP.
And, we’ve also turned off MSE for now as it has caused crashes of renderer when watching HTML5 videos.

On the Mac side we’ve fixed the issue with freezing NPAPI videos in Full Screen mode."

  • The Recently Closed wasn't where it was as always in the OPERA Menu

Hi @andgz: if you want, you can bring back the "Recent Tabs" in the Opera's menu: go to the opera:flags#tab-menu-with-recent-tabs, select "Disabled" from the drop-down, and restart the Opera  ;-)

  • Java plugin doesn't work in 30.0.1835.26 and the Verify Java Version page shows the error for Google Chrome. Is this plugin disabled by default? It doesn't matter that npapi is enabled.

  • Opera Beta 30.0.1835.26
Some pages go to crap (pictures) at:

So it does seem like jave probelms.

  • @ratbag31

that page looks fine to me in latest Beta win7
I don't even have Java installed on my machine

  • Neither do I!(on the Java installed)

Adobe Flash PPAPI 17.0.0.188 ,Adblock and Internet Download Manager 6.23 Build 12 is what I got for Addons.
    Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Maybe a mismatch with Adblock, but I went back to 29 stable and all shows well there.
    Thanx for the feedback.

  • The Opera 30 has been promoted to the stable channel: 30.0.1835.52, the change log, and the announcement** ;-)

"Opera 30 brings you better tab management, multitasking with sidebar extensions, more careful ways of removing or restoring your bookmarks.

    Switch between tabs faster

If you research online – for example, I’ve been reading about one of the latest product in our portfolio – VPN service SurfEasy, you may find yourself in a situation where you have a dozen or so tabs open that you need to switch between. Now, you can cycle through tabs even faster. Opera 30 switches tabs in chronological order and, using tab previews, creates a great, visual tab cycler. So, you can finish your tasks faster with less key strokes.

Customize even more with sidebar extensions

Multitasking is not always an efficient habit, especially if you want to accomplish more in less time. However, sometimes you need to compare results or see something in context to squeeze more information out of what you’re doing. That’s why Opera 30 includes sidebar extensions. These little add-ons have the full flexibility of extensions but get more space to be effective. Write notes, tweet on the go, or get a dedicated media player. Give them a try and tell us what works for you the best.

Restore bookmarks or delete them permanently with the trash folder

We do like reading comments on this blog and even answer a few of them. ;) Quite often you give us very exact bug reports or ideas to improve the product. So, I bookmark links to the comments and revisit them when release fever has calmed down. When ideas are logged and bugs are submitted, I start to remove these bookmarks. But now, I don’t need to worry if I remove something I may need. Opera 30’s trash folder lets me restore anything I might accidentally remove."
