I'm on win10.
I restarted my machine earlier and when I open up Opera it had the update logo thing and the browser is totally reset. All my bookmarks, all my speed dials, everything is gone. I'm so angry as I just spent some time getting it to the way I want. WTF is this? Can I get my data back?? -

i have windows 11 this just happened to me i need to know how to fix it. i hope someone will help soon. this is how i pay all my bills and the end of the month is coming up

@cheezyridr I'll be interested to know if you find a solution.
I had to just re-import bookmarks etc. in the end. It was a pain.
I also did a complete uninstall/reinstall so at least my flow is working across devices now. -

Before uninstalling anything, check Opera’s profile folder and make a backup of it. Sometimes an update starts Opera with a new or empty profile, while the old bookmarks and settings are still sitting in the previous profile. If the old profile is still there, there’s a decent chance some of the data is recoverable. Reinstalling first can make troubleshooting harder.

@LaurentPine TBH I tried everything before I reinstalled.
I simply don't have the time to trawl through help and forums at the moment.
I also use Firefox as a back up these days... -

not even the first time this has happened their team has implemented so many features that just don't work or break with every update and make it a frustration to use any of their products

all of my saved passwords are gone, and no backup exists anywhere, opera has screwed me over for the last time

@neilpwa This sounds like Opera may have opened a new or empty profile after the update rather than actually deleting everything.
First, don’t start adding bookmarks or changing settings. Go to opera:about and look at the Profile path. Then check that folder and see whether your old Bookmarks file is still there. Opera specifically recommends checking the profile location this way, and that folder contains your bookmarks, sessions, preferences, and other data.
Also check whether you were signed into Opera Sync. Your bookmarks and Speed Dial entries may still be synced to your account.
There’s a decent chance your data is still sitting in the old profile. I’d look for that before doing anything drastic.

@malcolmparkedhere Honestly I've tried this. I was fortunate enough to back up my bookmarks but I lost everything else. I do use a password manager as well so wasn't too catastrophic. My speed dials, pin boards etc, all gone. I have also had really frustrating problems with Flow. For some reason I opened the browser one day and the Flow screen was blank. I never got that working again until I did a completely clean reinstall. I've had other problems to for which I have never heard back from Opera support.
I've used Opera for years but have come close to giving up with it because the help or support is nonexistant. -

I see, I’m really sorry to hear that. Honestly, the only thing I can think of is regularly backing up the whole Opera profile folder, especially if you’re having problems like this more than once. It’s a pain, but at least you’d have a way to get things back instead of starting from scratch. I hope everything works out!
