      I get:

"your profile cannot be used because it's from a newer version of opera"

ever since I had to force shutdown my computer due to file explorer getting stuck. But I have the latest Opera!

I'd start by making a copy of your profile folder for a backup. Then, try deleting the "Preferences" file to see if the issue goes away. If not, try deleting the "Local State" file. If still no go, try deleting the "Secure Preferences" file. In short, keep deleting things till the error goes away so you know what file Opera is having an issue with.

Once you figure out what file it is, you can delete the new profile folder and restore the old one using a copy of the backup.

Then, you can try to fix whatever file is the problem. If it's the "Preferences" file, I guess you could load it in JSONedit in tree mode and mess with the root/profile/created_by_version value. And, I guess you can make sure the root/profile/exceptions/pref_version value is 1. For the created version, I guess you can look at it and make sure you run the profile with that specific version. Or, you can try to modify it. Not sure.

That's just a huge guess though and it's also assuming that the file isn't totally corrupted.

          Hi Hucker,

That message means Opera thinks your user profile was created or modified by a newer version of the browser, even though you’re on the latest version. This often happens if the profile files were corrupted during a force shutdown, especially while Opera was open.

To fix it, try renaming or backing up your current profile folder, then restart Opera—it will create a fresh one. You can usually find it in C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software. If Opera launches fine afterward, you can copy bookmarks and other data from the old profile into the new one.

          Regards
