Often I prefer scrolling through sites with the middle mouse button, especially at very long sites.

But the problem is that Opera kind of "cancels" this mode each about 1.5 seconds. I conclude this due to tests with differently timed clicks. (Sometimes it is canceled near-instantly, sometimes it takes up to 1.5 seconds) On other browsers this problem does not occur, so I think it is an Opera problem.

Does somebody know this problem or struggles with it, too?

      Regards

No such problem here in any version of Opera.

Are you using any mouse driver software (Logitech Setpoint for example) ?.

I tried it with closing the Sharkoon Drakonia mouse driver and the Razer Synapse keyboard driver. By chance I tried it today with a new mouse, but the problem continues.

Other software running in the background? There are programs designed to simulate mouse clicks, for example to prevent the computer from sleeping. Simulating a mouse click would of course cancel panning.

No program running in the background that should simulate clicks. Especially why should it simulate a click in Opera, but does not in Firefox or Internet Explorer? I would notice simulated clicks in games either. Unfortunately nothing like that running on my system. 😞
