Unable to verify the website's identity (OCSP error).
The response from the online certificate validation (OCSP) server was too old.
PS: as a workaround you can disable opera:config#SecurityPrefs|OCSPValidateCertificates ... though as it seems to be a pretty security-relevant feature I would not do so ...
In topic titled OCSP error, former senior developer yngve commented,

However, when it happens, Opera does not check that server again for 24 hours (when that was added OCSP responders could have troubles for days, even weeks). A restart will reset this block.

Perhaps the cache have to be deleted, too, in addition to the restart.
The problem has nothing to do with the certificate, but with the connection stability to the issuer's OCSP server which is checked every few days (sometimes every few hours) to determine if the certificate is still valid and have not been revoked by the issuer. Sometimes the network connection to those servers experience problems, and occasionally the server itself have problems. In those cases Opera will reduce the security level to indicate that the validity of the certificate could not be checked completely.
However clearing storage cache do not remedy the Twitter issue. As I use a standalone 12.02 installation customised especially for Twitter and nothing else, I may try disabling opera:config#SecurityPrefs|OCSPValidateCertificates if not resolved soon. Thanks for the info, serious.
Update
Clearing storage and cache did work but required two restarts, but without images loaded on twitter page. So I will probably have to try serious' opera:config switch after all. -

I hat the same issue as of today but narrowed it down to yesterdays Java update (Vers7, update 45) - Twitter was running fine until then - but now it looks just like the first post - works fine in Explorer and Chrome interestingly...
So any idea how we get this fixed would be great - thanks

It isn't Java. I have this problem and I don't even have Java installed.

Thank you edmarcio. Yet it is a strange unfortunate coincidence that on the same day we got Java 1.7.0_45 some sites got suddenly broken. I'm just wondering if there was some safety update to the JavaScript language that Opera 12.16 was not updated/prepared with/for. Opera should do fine with TLS 1.0, RC4 128 bit encryption; RSA 2048 bit exchange of tumblr and tweeter, which are pretty standard, the fact is the login page is totally scrambled... Tumblr and Tweeter are also two different things and yet... There should be a culprit and the only changing I can remember in the OS was, as mentioned by Flxwrx, the Java update.
I have to believe you when you say they are not related, yet these things are not a mere hazard.

Green Man Gaming is also inaccessible. It works fine in IE and Opera 18, but in Opera 12.16 if I try and log in or if I add something to my basket and try and go to the checkout stage, I got a "403: Forbidden" error.

That is a completely separate issue to this one.

Why don't you explain it to us?

So are we forced to let go of Opera for good or will there be a fix for 12.16 users?

I asked about this on Opera's Facebook page. I mentioned that users are having issues with Twitter, Tumblr etc. and asked if they would be releasing a fix. They deleted my post within minutes. I hope they do fix this, as they're definitely aware of it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
