Font size: Why so ridiculously big?

I'm looking at this page with a 24" monitor. I should be about 50 posts per page. I see about 3. Its like they assume everyone uses some retarded, microscreen phone. Why is this? Can't the website know if someone is on a mobile device or a home computer?

That's got nothing to do with it. When I bring the zoom level down, the margins are still huge wasting space. A few years ago Opera came up with Fit to Width and it was brilliant. Of course its gone now. That's why I stick with Opera 12. But you can do nothing with a page like the Opera Forum. Its like its for a 3" screen! They need a setting that allows one to use the entire width of the screen?

I wonder what percentage of people are using a bloody phone with its miniscule 3-5" screen to read this?!
