workspaces not in sidebar

workspaces are not in the sidebar on my Intel mac 2020 running OS 15.0. There is no "move to >" in the right click on tab dropdown menu. There are no workspace icons ion the sidebar other than the initial one with the "home" icon. I have three workspaces defined with individual icons and none appear in the sidebar. Any ideas?
