The first Opera beta 27.0.1689.29 - for the time being for Mac and Windows, version for Linux will be released shortly. The change log, and the official announcement ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Highlights:

      1. Improved navigation

Many of you have raised the issue that the navigation panel does not work with dark backgrounds, because the background was faded out to make the buttons more visible. Now, you can use the darkest possible background, and it will still look good.

      2. Tab menu

If you look up at your browser interface right now and see more than 5 tabs open, you can consider yourself unique. Only 5% of users have that many tabs open on average. (And, yes, you most probably also have a quite new computer with tons of RAM to handle it.) We have created the tab menu especially for you. (Many users will most likely not ever see it, because they wonโ€™t ever reach the number of tabs needed to activate it.)

      3. There is also a long list of small improvements in this release, including:

      • Invitation to migrate your Adobe Flash from NPAPI to PPAPI

      • Addition of some APIs

      • Improvements to the shutdown functionality

      • Speech API

      1. Linux will be released shortly!

      \m/ โ˜•

Are Speed Dial folders to appear as nearly black with its contents barely visible? If so, I don't like that.

I don't like bottom speed dial navigation. Restore top navigation or sidebar navigation bar. Extensions could add their own icons to the sidebar. Remember that laptop screens are wide and low (usually 1366x768).

Hi @webcm, you can disable it (restore top bar): go to the address bar, and type opera:flags#webui-navigation-bar, press enter, select "Disabled" from the drop-down, and restart the Opera ๐Ÿ˜‰

It seems so in new start page. But it also seems to be a work in progress so things may change.

With regards to Speed Dial...would like to get rid of the Google address box, especially since there already is a search box just above it, would make much better use of limited space in Speed Dial.

Would also like to reduce size of Speed Dial boxes, again, better use of limited space.

Other than that it works very well, much better than the "stable" version.

You need to enter the Konami code to access the 'Power User settings', which will allow you to achieve the above. See my post here for more details.

See my answer above re: the 'Power User settings', as these settings will allow you to achieve this too. Or see the last post in the thread I linked to from @rafiki for another way to achieve this, which I never knew myself and works great.

Tried entering it both with keyboard and touchpad and even cut and paste and no go.
Using Asus Transformer with Win 8.1.

There is nothing to cut and paste, you have to type it via the keyboard, and you will not see any visual feedback until you have entered it all correctly. You have to remember to make sure that any text areas that can receive input are not selected before typing the konami code.

You will know when you have entered it correctly, because a large box will appear in the centre of your screen.

Hi @groingo, just follow the below steps:

                          1. Go to Settings (Alt+P), click on the free space on the page somewhere outside the search field, enter the Konami code: up up down down left right left right b a,

                          2. After that, the warning window should appear (Power user settings), click the "I understand, proceed" button, and scroll to the bottom of the page, tick the checkbox on the left of the "Always show power user settings" option,

                          3. Go to the "Start Page" section, and tick the checkbox on the left of the "Hide the search box in Speed Dial" ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got it to work and did get rid of the Speed Dial search box but there are only three things its has added in settings.

                            Delay initial tab preview
                            Hide search box
                            Always show power settings

I was hoping to be able to scale down the Speed Dial boxes too and in fact it showed it in a previous post just above by linuxmint7.

While viewing the Speed Dial page, go to the menu and click the zoom out (left hand) button of the zoom options, this will zoom out the Speed Dial page and scale down the Speed Dial boxes. Zooming in, with the right hand zoom button will zoom in the Speed Dial page and increase the size of the Speed Dial boxes. Play around with those two buttons until you reach a view you are happy with, and your chosen view will automatically be saved for the next time you open Opera.

Works good but never did it before because I figured it would shrink all other sites as well, just another hidden gem from Opera.....thanks, now all is right with the browser....no more gripes.

Wow, tab menu is awesome, with my 50-100 tabs this is must have. U use both chrome and Opera, but Opera is getting ahead. Not loading tabs at the start and now tab menu, great work.

Any way to remove this from the old Start Page?

I also have my speed dial set up the way I want it, so is there a way to remove the "new speed dial" button?
