Opera Mail cannot retrieve new emails and cannot send mails

I had to reinstall Opera Mail. Before the reinstallation I renamed the "mail" folder. After reinstalling, I renamed the new mail folder to mail1 and renamed the original mail folder to "mail" again. Everything looked perfect. I have access to all mails up to the time of reinstallation.
However, I can't retrieve any New mails (Opera Mail reports: "No new mails"), and I can't send any mails (they remain in the outbox).
Does anyone have an idea to make this work again?
Thanks for your help,

On the Servers tab in each account's properties, retype the username and password for both the incoming and outgoing servers.

Try logging your connections to see if anything even shows up in the log files. If so, maybe you can see what errors are shown. If the log files remain empty, you at least know that Opera isn't even getting that far.
If all else fails though, see this old post for a manual way of starting with a new mail folder and importing messages from your old mail folder.

Thanks for your help! However, it did not work.
The Incoming log files report only things like these:Incoming Log File=C:\Users\user\Desktop\account1_inlog.txt 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP OUT: Connecting... 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP OUT: Disconnect 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP OUT: Connecting... 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP OUT: Disconnect 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP OUT: Connecting... 05/11-2023 19:07:34 POP IN: Disconnect 05/11-2023 19:07:35 POP OUT: Connecting...
I reinstalled Opera Mail with only one email account (and empty Mail folder), however i could not connect,
I recovered the Mail folder from a backup file, the mails until the backup date were there, with the information "no new mails available". It seems that Opera Mail cannot connect to the accounts at all. -

@didi00sport Something with the POP servers might have changed where they require some new TLS cipher that Opera Mail doesn't support.
On the servers tab in the mail account's properties, what do you have set for the port setting, the TLS setting and the authentication setting?
Is the mail server you're using public where someone can sign up to create a test account for free?
Have you tried connecting to the account(s) in Thunderbird for example to test that all is good there at least?

- I have Win 10 Pro, Version 22H2.
- I installed Thunderbird a couple of days before, and there are no problems - all old and new mails are available and I can send mails. as well.
- Yesterday I restored the AppData folders "Local" and "Roaming" for Opera mail from my backup, however without the desired effect, all mails until the backup date were available, but not the new ones.
- The reason why I originally deleted Opera Mail and reinstalled it was that for some time now I had to accept the certificates for almost each mail, which I found very time-consuming. The problems with not being able to send or receive mails only came after the reinstallation.
Thanks for your help!

@didi00sport Ah, yes. I think I remember the other post about the certs.
I would try with a whole new profile folder in Opera Mail and not just a new "mail" folder and set things up fresh just to test to see if you get those cert prompts again and to test if you can then connect at least.

@burnout426
I uninstalled Opera Mail with Revo Uninstaller, and installed from new it with only 1 new account.
It showed that Opera Mail was not able to log in with any official server data input combination of the providers. Maybe, the TLS version used by Opera Mail, more than 10 years old, is not accepted any longer from web.de or gmx.de. Thunderbird (from where I copied the account infos) as well as Outlook work fine. So I think I have to quit Opera Mail definitely.
Thanks for your efforts! -

For what it's worth, I just created a GMX account at gmx.com and enabled IMAP and POP for it. I then set up an account in Opera Mail 1.0.1044 32-bit on Windows 11 22H2 to connect to it via POP and SMTP. Sending and receiving messages works fine. I did get the cert warnings but I checked the "remember" box and clicked "approve". Everything is working fine now.
Incoming Server: pop.gmx.com
Port: 995
Authentication: Auto (Plaintext)
TLS: Checked
Username: username@gmx.com
Password: mypasswordOutgoing Server: mail.gmx.com
Port: 587
TLS: Checked
Authentication: Auto (AUTH LOGIN)
Username: username@gmx.com
Password: mypasswordI know those are not the de versions of the servers, but the .com ones work fine at least.

@burnout426
And I added one of my accounts on my wife's Opera mail installation on her notebook - and it worked without problems - with the standard server data.
So where is the bug??? -

If you're not getting asked to approve the invalid cert chain for each server, that could be it. In the profile folder you can try deleting opcacrt6.dat to trigger again. There's also opicacrt6.dat, optrust.dat, opuntrust.dat and opcert6.dat. Deleting one of them might trigger the prompts again where you can switch to the second tab in the prompt, check "remember" and click "approve".
You could also delete wand.dat to remove your passwords to see if that triggers the cert prompts. You'd then have to retype them in of course.
If you have anti-virus software, make sure its email scanner is off.

I tried your hints, and I get the information on non-accepted certificates. After transferring my wife's account to my newly installed Opera Mail on my notebook, it seemed to work fine, after allowing the certifikate, it was possible to send mails, but they could not be retrieved on my notebook in Opera Mail, yet in Outlook I could receive it. So it was sent, but was not retrievable
Since I have wasted (too) many hours I will stop now to "reanimate" Opera Mail and switch to Outlook
Thanks for your help !!! -
