Can I open new tabs in the foreground instead of in the background?

Just upgraded to Opera 25 from 12.17 which opens tabs in the foregound. Is there a way to make Opera 25 do the same?

Thanks for that l33t4opera. Ctrl+Shift+Click works fine but it's a bit fiddly. What I really wanted was for it to work by default by changing a setting somewhere but it doesn't seem to be available under Settings.

You have to use some extension for such behavior.
(I wrote one for myself - there is extension, which allows open new tabs at end of tab bar and another extension, which brings new tabs into foreground; my personal code does both :))

So I'll just have to get used to it or use the keyboard shortcut then. That's a pity. I'm not one for using extensions but I may have a look at them, thanks.

At first I refused to use extensions as well (old habits). But they allow make new Opera a bit more usable, and some extensions are better than O12 inbuilt counterparts (AdBlock for example). Well, so far I'm using Opera 10 as my main browser anyway...

Some people use tab activate. It is not currently in our store but if you install this first you will be able to install from the Chrome store.Scratch that. I remembered that we have SimpleTabOrder and Classic Tabs in our store already. Both of which provide these options.

ruario, will you add these options to Opera natively? 'Sensible' tab cycling order you already have, I'm eagerly waiting for other tab options as well

What the point of opening a link or a new tab if it doesn't open in the foreground and you need to look for an extension for something the browser should do already, yes, that was very annoying when I was using Opera, the browser i use now does it all, but I keep checking back in the forums for news that Opera finally gets it right, but I wont hold my breath waiting for that to happen

You can consider using Maxthon for Windows. It has tab management that is similar to the one that was available in Opera 12.xx. It also provides a more flexible shortcut management. Their speed dial is bad, though. Or at least, not what I need.
I tried the suggested plugins myself, but they seem to malfunction and start opening the tabs in the background. At least, classic tabs does. You constantly have to hit Ctrl+Shift in order to restore the expected behavior.

I don't believe there are any plans to at the moment.

I prefer them to open in the background more often than not. If I open multiple links from a search result, I want to open them all and then look through them. It would be annoying to constantly switch back and forth. In any case Ctrl + Shift click to open in foreground.

You could do that and suffer having an old Chromium, opening you up to security isues. But sure, your call of course.

It is just your preference
I know some people, who also like open new tabs in background - and some people (including myself), who just can't stand this background thing. And some people, who always open tabs in background and then always activate them with mouse click...For example I almost never open links for further reading in some indefinite future. If something interests me, I just open it (in foreground of course), read it, close it and continue where I left earlier. Or, if this is some bigger article, I at least have to check initially, is it worth to read (=keep tab open) and this is also foreground task. In language of my actions - Ctrl+Click - check content - good content - Ctrl+Tab (or ... - bad content - close rightmost tab with mouse).
Apparently such usage (esp using mouse) is helped by opening new tab at fixed (last/rightmost) position - I can close it with mouse almost not looking at the screen. These are those little things, making some program more usbale than other. Sure this all is my preference, for other users this can be quite different.
Hotkey with two modifiers is nonsense for me either

I forgot to mention that this option is available in your recent mobile browser. Why not treat your desktop users with the same feature?

Yes, I too found it very annoying that the ?new? Opera does not have any setting to allow opening tabs in foreground! Why leave out such a basic setting??? Very annoying! Another example of going one step forward and two backwards!

Opera have mouse gesture for opening new tabs in foreground
right click link and pull it down...I personally hate it because it fights with new tab gesture (easy to trigger it accidentally)
I made extensions for dragging links with left mouse button, and you can customize it how it behaves (active or bg, different for up and down)...
