Hello, I just foolishly updated my browser from v99 to 100.0.4815.21 on Windows 11. I always had problems with the x buttons on the tab/rider. But now they completely disappeared. When I use Opera 100 on my laptop it doesn’t pose a problem. I hover with my mouse over the tab, and the x button is readily available. However, using my browser on my tablet (Surface 6 Pro) there is no way to hover. At this point I can only long-press (aka right-click) and then select Close Tab).

      Screenshot 2023-06-22 074446.jpg

I tried to find something in the settings for 20 minutes and couldn’t find anything about options.
Is it a design error, or is there an option in the settings that I can check and just haven’t found yet?

With the opera browser from the earliest version, and then the tab closing buttons were disabled !!!
But what about the owners of tablets ps !! You have to constantly call the menu to close the tab!
        😠

Same problem here with Opera One. X has simply been removed entirely !

I wish for more oversized X buttons than what the current version gives.

Since its earliest version, the Opera browser has disabled tab closing buttons. However, this presents an issue for tablet users. They are required to consistently access the menu in order to close tabs. This unique design choice in Opera's interface can be particularly inconvenient for tablet owners.

They are there .... you have to hover your mouse over the Tab, then the X will show up. I know, I have Opera One running on four different openSuse Tumbleweed machines.

The one exceptions is if you're using a touch screen - then the X wont show up.

The OP's comment and the subsequent comments pertained to use of the current version on tablets specifically MS Surface Pro. Not computer where the primary input device is a mouse or pen.

As a MS Surface Pro and Opera user the deletion of the close via touch function is a nonsensical change which diminishes the useability of Opera on tablets and other touch devices. But seeing how there has been zero response from the development team nor any change that I can see in 102 beta or 103 developer versions, I guess they don't care about Windows tablets users.

@myswtest As Robteejr states, there is no way to hover for me on a tablet, so I don't have the X available. I have moved on since then to Vivaldi. I may come back at some point but right now I consider Opera 'inoperable' on a Windows tablet.

I have the same problem on my surface in the end my solution was to switch, but since i wanted to keep opera i just went to the opera gx gaming browser which still has the nice clickable -even on touchscreen- x-button.

@malahovv This sucks, I use a convertible laptop and if this is not fixed I'll be uninstalling the browser. I mean how can such a popular brand come up with stupid updates without even considering people browsing on touch devices! It's annoying af

@myswtest Not even sure if Opera is seeing this, people are putting these up and no one is batting an eye. Forums might be as stupid as the update of removing close tab icon.
People who came up with this really did over think!

                                @hey008 and @PranayChaturvedi ...

My perception is this is mostly a user to user forum, although there are active Moderators.

If it is so, the development team is not watching these threads.

There are a couple of active "feedback" threads going on, which might be where the dev team is getting feedback from.

But yea, I understand, taking away features that are well known and expected of all browsers is thoughtless.

Some good news for touch users. Opera 103 Beta has added the X back to the tab island. So 103 Stable should resolve this issue.

Why are the tab-closing buttons missing in Opera 100 on some tablets? 🙏

I understand that you're having trouble closing tabs on Opera 100 on your Surface 6 Pro. This is a known issue with Opera 100 on tablets. The tab closing buttons have been removed from the browser on tablets, and there is no way to hover to close a tab.

To close a tab on Opera 100 on your Surface 6 Pro, you can either right-click on the tab and select "Close Tab," or you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W (Windows) or Cmd+W (Mac).
