@leocg Can you be more specific? What do they have to do with Opera? I didn't see any statements from the company. I'm also not aware of any ties to any governments with Opera.

@settling Some block access to Opera servers, some forbid the use of AIs, etc.

In https://help.opera.com/en/browser-ai-faq/ you can see the countries where Aria is not available.

@leocg We're talking about Opera restricting the access, which the error message indicates. I'm in one of the countries listed where Aria should be available.

@settling In fact, if you can see it in sidebar, then it means that Aria is available for you. The access problem may be a bug or maybe something is messing with it.

Do you use any extensions? If so, did you try with all of them disabled?

@leocg I realised I'm actually in the country where Aria is "unavailable", even if I changed Local State. This means the Aria backend additionally checks my IP or something like that and finds out I'm from the wrong country.

The questions stands: why does my location plays a role in this? This is Web, if I have to remind, it's global.

Is this just something people agreed upon "just because" and now we don't talk about it?

@settling The Web is not a different dimension, an isolated place where countries' laws and restrictions do not apply. Nor Opera nor any other serious company will do anything to try to bypass those rules and restrictions.

@leocg I understand. What rules do you mean is the question. Because FAQ just says "unavailable in these countries" without any "due to".

I understand that Opera isn't required to do that, but wouldn't it simply be polite?
