What is Opera Workspaces?
Workspaces are a feature in Opera that lets you organize your tabs into different groups in a dedicated tab strip, like rooms in a house. Each workspace is like a different room, and you can customize them based on your browsing habits.Click here to see the Workspaces in action!
How to Work with Workspace
To start using Workspaces, click the "..." icon in the sidebar and navigate to the Workspaces section. From here, you can add new spaces and customize them based on your needs. Once you have created your Workspaces, you can switch between them by clicking on the workspace icon. You can also move tabs between workspaces if you forget to open them in the right one.Notes
- To use workspaces, make sure the sidebar is enabled. If it's not, go to "Easy Settings" and select "auto-hide" or "on".
- Workspaces are enabled by default once the sidebar appears, and are positioned on top of it.
- If you previously disabled workspaces, you can re-enable them by clicking the "..." icon in the sidebar and opening "Sidebar Setup". You can also customize them by changing their icons, names, and adding new workspaces.
- Don't worry if you switch to another workspace and see no tabs - your tabs from the previous workspace are saved there until you switch back.
- Setting up and customizing workspaces can take some time and effort to fit your specific needs and browsing habits.
- Having multiple workspaces can sometimes be confusing and make it harder to find specific tabs, especially if you have many tabs open across multiple workspaces. To help with this, try using the "Search Tab" feature located on the top right corner.

Workspaces should be have different sessions and cookies, like the "Firefox Multi-account Container" extension. This will make workspaces more useful, after all it is common to use specific accounts for work and other accounts for private things.

@dudubroering Workspaces are not made for that. For what you want, Opera needs to support different profiles.
Opera GX does support it, so maybe Opera will also do it at some point.

@leocg Yes. It's not made for that yet. But should be.
Will be much more useful.

@dudubroering It wouldn't make sense for workspaces to work like that. Imagine that Opera would need to close and reopen, like if it had crashed, every time you went to a different workspace, so that the profile for that workspace could be loaded.
With support for multiple profiles, you would just needed to launch the profile you wanted and, also, could have different workspaces on it.

I love the Workspaces! I came from Vivaldi, and thought I'd test out the Opera One workspaces.
One question, in the explanation of Workspaces it says "Having multiple workspaces can sometimes be confusing and make it harder to find specific tabs, especially if you have many tabs open across multiple workspaces. To help with this, try using the "Search Tab" feature located in the top right corner." - Where precisely is this? I cannot find it.
Secondly. I have the sidebar hidden until I move my mouse to the left of the screen. However, it's really a slow process to work out which workspace is which unless the sidebar is always in view (which I prefer not to have). Is it possible to have names of Workspaces rather than icons showing, or at least allow different coloured icons to enable quick identification?

@steven1958 It's on the top right, the magnifying glass icon.

@dudubroering I love this idea/suggestion. Having isolation between workspaces would be wonderful!

@seanchiggins Yes. I work for two companies and do some volunteer work. So this solution helps to organize multiple workspaces (since I use different accounts for each company).
Today I'm stuck on Firefox as it's the only one that has a similar feature, using the Firefox Multi-account Container extension. But if you had that isolation in Opera's workspaces, it would be much more intuitive.

@leocg Switching profiles as it is in Chrome is not feasible for anyone who performs activities on different accounts during the day. Opera GX is similar to this and not solve this difficulty.

@dudubroering Then there is no solution, because the only way to have workspaces using different data would be by changing the profile directory when changing the workspace.

I decided to check out workspaces for the first time today to clean up my clutter of windows and tabs.
I created separate workspaces for different tasks and moved all my open tabs into the appropriate workspace.
Then when the time came to actually open one of my carefully crafted workspaces opera crashed and removed all the tabs in my "default" workspace.
I am unable to open any other workspace but the "default" one, and all those tabs I organized seems like they are gone.
I know it is probably because I'm silly enough to be using the developer version as my daily driver, but I'm just spoiled in that it usually isn't a problem. And workspaces has been around for so long I kind of didn't expect it to be such a disaster...

Just created my account here to suggest the same thing as @dudubroering. It would be a thousand of times more useful if we have an option to choose not to share sessions, cookies and accounts between workspaces. Or even if we could choose what to sync between workspaces and what to not.

@lukcramos The only way for doing it would be by launching a new instance of Opera for each workspace, what wouldn't make sense and would just break the concept of workspaces.
Like I said before, what you want is support for different profiles.

I came here to say what @dudubroering said. I feel like at a minimum being able to have different bookmarks would help a lot too, in my case where it would be better to be able to have to "accounts", but I could get by with one and just island out how each workspace works in my account. Would make workspaces fit into it's own name a bit more than right now I feel.

Hello, in the first versions of One, the spaces did not close when the last tab was closed. Now, if I close the last tab on a workspace, Opera automatically switches to another workspace! Is it possible to refuse the automatic switch from one workspace to another when closing the last tab?
