opera stealing downloads

There has been something bothering me about opera. when I used chrome to download stuff, it sent it all to winrar but now that i downloaded opera, its opera that takes the files so it makes those files unusable. I havent found anything about download priority. could someone help me with that?

@tac0cat During the download, Opera (may) adds a special extension (opdownload) to the files. That extension is removed when the download ends.

Are you saying rar files have an Opera icon in Windows instead of the Winrar icon? As in, if you double-click on a rar file, it tries to open in Opera instead of Winrar, and Opera just downloads the local file to the downloads folder?
