^^ Although it has been 3.5+ years since then, nothing must have been done, the problem still persists!

At the URL
opera://settings/onStartup, do you have it set to "Begin with a fresh start page"? If so, instead of that option, set it to "Open a specific page or set of pages" and add just the pageopera://startpage. Then, test to see if the problem goes away. -

Just found out the solution in Opera GX.
In opera://flags, turn off the enhanced address bar and restart Opera.

If anyone still has this problem, open new window after open the Opera GX, use that new window and close the first opening window, this way url appear correctly, at least for me.
