.opera folder in download folder

Lately after an opera update I find a .opera folder in my download folder. Inside that there is an empty folder with an alphanumeric title.
Any significance to this? Never happened until about a a week ago.

Still getting this .opera folder in my download folder from time to time. No explanation? Seems to be a duplicate of the .opera folder in /appdata/Programs/Opera/ Appears after an update but not every time.

Close down Opera. Then, open the Windows Task Manager to make sure there are no Opera processes still running.
Then, in Windows Explorer (file explorer), select and delete everything in the "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\temp" folder. Then, do the same thing in "C:\Windows\temp". Then, delete the .opera folder in your downloads folder again. Then, it shouldn't come back.

It seems to have been a Gigabyte APP center (mb utilitites) problem. It leaves an APC folder, not deletable, in /appdata/Local/temp
Once I uninstalled APP center and was able to delete the APC folder the .opera problem went away.

In addition to clear the 2 temp folders as mentioned earlier, you can uninstall Opera (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling), delete the install folder if it remains (might have old versions in there), and reinstall Opera.
Another thing you can do is check the Windows Task Scheduler to make sure there's only 1 autoupdate task for reach Opera and only 1 Opera assistant update task for each Opera. If you have double of 1 of those, if both tasks run at the same time, it can cause issues. Easiest way to check is to check after you uninstalling Opera to make sure there are zero Opera tasks. Then reinstall.
Also, sometimes, because of the shorter path, it's better to install Opera for all users to "C:\Program Files\Opera" instead of for just the current user at "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera". When you launch the installer, you can click "options" to control that.

A reinstall to C://Program Files/Opera seems to have done the trick. Anyway I am clean so far.
