Please sort the bookmarks in the express panel by date.

Add a setting toggle to have bookmarks prepended or appended to an existing list. Then we can choose which works best on an individual basis.

Was having the same issuee, found a solution (sort of). It is a Chrome extension, but seems to work as it should on opera as well.

@thatfrozenfire I looked through the description of all the plugins and put one to try, but I did not find the necessary option there and deleted it. Bookmarks are the most valuable thing I have in Opera.
These plugins basically do what Opera already has by default, sorting the bookmarks alphabetically. Probably sorting by date is currently not possible in these browsers.

@Gamadrila I am able to see the options on my version of opera; if you select the add-on and scroll down to "Other Bookmarks" which is esseentially just all of your other folders excepting the bookmarks bar and click on the drop-dwon that probably is shown as "..." or another sorting option there is an option for Dorting by Date > Newest to Oldest or Oldest to Newest. Also don't forget to activate "Automatic Sorting" if it isn't turned on by default (Am not suree if it is or not). Hope this helps, might just be different versions of either the Add-On or Opera itself too...

I didn’t figure out how to insert pictures correctly on the forum, I showed an error, so this is a link.
It shows what I have displayed in the bookmarks bar. The mouse cursor only shows one sort in alphabetical order, there are no other options.

@gamadrila Sorry, I forogt to explain it properly; once you have the addon installed, you have to click on the "Sprucemarks" addon that should be in your addons folder and sort from there. It is a bit more tedious, however there doesn't seem to be any better option that I have found...

@thatfrozenfire I figured out how adon works. But it does not sort the express panel. In opera, it is in the bookmarks section. But adon does not see it. I don't use regular bookmarks.

Now, we have just to resort all bookmarks in anti-chronological order, including ones set in the meanwhile. Will try the add-on proposed earlier by @@thatfrozenfire to do so.
