I've seen many people recommending this browser together with people complaining about some practices made by the company that owns this browser, since the posts are a bit confusing to me, i would like to ask someone to explain to me from the moderation. Thanks in advance

@anothermemberofsociety Sorry, but the forum moderators (myself and @leocg) are just volunteers and have no "inside track" on the company. But I doubt they'd have anything to do with loans. That doesn't mean I'd trust their partners as I really know nothing about them. Not sure why anyone would even be asking a software company for money in the first place...

@anothermemberofsociety These forums are for discussions about the Opera browsers, so discussions about their security are fine but talkings about other softwares from the main parent company should be made in their own places. Here you can use Lounge for those discussions, always following the rules.
That said, Opera GX is a safe browser. There is no reason, so far, to believe it isn't.

@leocg Oh thanks, and, is this new browser gaining new users or is it losing?

@anothermemberofsociety Don't know and don't see the relevance for the discussion about if Opera GX is safe or not.

Quihoo been accused of a lot of things in the past, and in 2016 they bought part of Opera company, so doesn't that mean they are using the software as a way to spy?

@anothermemberofsociety You probably wrote that post using a computer/phone made in China or with several components made there. So, I guess you can make the same question.
Such questions were already answered several times, so just do a search or navigate on the forums.
Basically you should remember that Opera is a Norwegian company and, also, the main company is listed on Nasdaq. -

@leocg I get it but, aren't the new ownsers tarnishing the brand name doing all those illegal stuff?

@anothermemberofsociety If I remember correctly there were some rumors about it but that was all. And loans are predatory by nature.
Anyway, these forums are for discussions about the Opera's browsers and their included services. For discussions about other Opera Ltd products, go to their own pages.

@anothermemberofsociety It's just a matter of put the brain to work, Opera is a Norwegian company and, therefore, has to follow Norwegian laws.
