--user-data-dir=path_to_folder_on_your_desktop
I am not ok to do this because it I am quite sure that it will make me lose my current tabs, my current session
Notice it is possible that the problem comes from when a wallpaper was not added by Opera, I ll add a new wallpaper by adding a picture found on the web by Opera (You have only to right click on it and then to click on the "Add as wallpaper" choice)

@lu-menard The idea is to test if the problem happens with a new clean test profile, your current data will not be affected.

@lu-menard In fact when I do this, Opera doesn't add the picture as newspaper but request to download it

What distro and version of Linux are you using?
And, what desktop environment? -

@burnout426
Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon
I tested this and only Firefox, propose to add a picture directly as wallpaper, not Chrome or Brave or Opera, so I guess I added this picture as wallpaper by Firefox -

Also, what file type? png or jpg or something else?

Are you talking about setting a picture as the background on your desktop or as a background in the newtab page in Firefox and the start page in Opera?

Precisely I think I added this picture I suppose by Firefox (no other possibility) and the choice was "as wallpaper" and it was actually added as a wallpaper and then I replaced it by another wallpaper by the Linux Mint dedicated application, and then in Opera I discovered that this wallpaper was still the background in Opera .... that is what worries me a lot because it could have been harmful in some circumstances and can be a privacy issue

@lu-menard Thanks for the clarification. I see what you mean now.
Sounds like the wallpaper in Opera was set to "Desktop" to show your desktop's background. But, when you changed the desktop background, Opera still showed the old desktop background as its wallpaper.
I can confirm this on Windows at least. But, when I restart Opera, Opera will then update. As in, the problem you're seeing is that Opera doesn't recognize changes to the desktop background while open, not even if you switch to a different wallpaper and then back to using the desktop one. You always have to restart Opera.
I can see how that's not ideal.

@burnout426 ok but in the present case I think that I started Opera after having change the desktop wallpaper in the Mint settings
