Download manager

This thread is for any suggestions on improving the download manager, its interface and options.
I'm not a nuOpera user yet. However, when I become such, I'd like to see it nice.
<p title="Suggestion 1">On these forums, I've already seen a request to re-implement the proper download dialogue: "open" or "save", "remember choice", and so on. Count it as Suggestion 1.
<p title="Suggestion 2">The next one considers security.
As I understand from my using truOpera, when you click on a download link, the file immediately starts loading - along with the appearing of the download dialogue. Right?
But considering hardware and software safety, I'd like to see certain measures implemented.I don't know where such an "unserviced" file is being downloaded nor how my system is protected from a possible threat assuming it's a very contagious virus in there...
<hr>
Look. What if a user could either opt out from immediate downloading - or there were default restrictions for that?
Let alone that my system/browser is hanging for up to a couple'a minutes sometimes - before I can even possibly click that "cancel" or anything (I assume because of the downloading of a piece of BS having already started), I'd like to SEE exactly first what sort of BS I've been offered to take. BEFORE ANY downloading ever started - right?
I suggest there could be either way, in the case of the default behaviour I propose that CERTAIN TYPES OF FILES do not start downloading UNTIL the user GETS the dialogue and chooses by herself/himself. For example, exe files should be prevented from such immediate downloading. That is unless it's the opt-out scheme.
Count this Suggestion 2. -

Basically the reason is/was, iirc, that instead of having the file downloaded to an "unknown" folder, know the user knows where the file is and have easier access to it.
Why is it unknown? It is
-
shown on the Opera:About page,
-
easily accessed with the "Open folder" context menu command via the "Downloads" page (in Presto).

If you choose to open the file, it is downloaded to some (usually hidden by default ) temo folder and can stay there for a long time.

Myself personally made a tag/icon for that folder on my "Desctop".
It's useful - to see what's in, to reuse it if interesting, and to clear the folder if/when it gets overcrowded. -

Besides, as this thread is in a - suggestion box, right? Let us suggest that the download manager can provide the user with either/both a link/path to the folder in question and/or option(s) to access and/or clear that folder and/or set a schedule for the browser to handle that (automatically)

The very need to depends on how the browser handles it in the first place**
If it maintains it according to memory needs and overall performance by itself - then why the hell the user might need to find it - in a complicated way, at least?
Above all, the option "Open" does exactly mean that the user does not give Scheiße about WHERE the browser's gonna shove it to, right? -

Should be, but many people thinks that "open" means that nothing will be downloaded and the file will be gone after have been closed, what is not necessarily true.

Ok I see the case has two topics already, let me jump here and leave the second alone.
First of all @Lecog
Well, not necessarily. More options can also mean more trouble.
R u for real? Nice logic like "I better stay @ home, there are so many dangerous things out of there e.g. I could die crossing the street" gg
I'm not against options but adding them just for having them is not good.
I wrote
For my case I need it for adding .torrent files for utorent automaticaly by one click.
Ok, maybe english isn't my native language but I think I said I want to use it as I used @ 12.XX so it is kinda far away from "just for having" FFS.
And again, "unknown folder" , "more trouble" it's blablabla.
I see you are defending the lack of "open" hard just because and worrying on others, pls don't.many people thinks that "open" means that nothing will be downloaded and the file will be gone after have been closed, what is not necessarily true.
It you really care it could be done that typing "open" means puting the file to temp folder which could be cleared automatically on exit or whatever. I don't really care how it would work, I know how it was done @ 12 and it was ok for me, "Open" option @ dialogbox is a must.
Opera downloads a lot of files to the temp without asking you for accept, there could be dangerous files also so give a break. -

Just for curiosity, your tag/icon leads to which folder?
I was wrong - "About Opera" now does not show that path among others.
"...\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera...". -

Afaik, yes.

It's just my opinion based on lots of post in the old forum during Presto years from people who managed to have problems due to Opera having lots of options and features.
Btw, it would be more like "I'm not sure about the directions to somewhere, suddenly the road gives me 3, 4 different ways to take. Which one should i choose? If i choose the wrong one, how can i come back to this point to be able to choose another?"
Ok, maybe english isn't my native language but I think I said I want to use it as I used @ 12.XX so it is kinda far away from "just for having" FFS.
I was talking about features in general.
And again, "unknown folder" , "more trouble" it's blablabla.
I see you are defending the lack of "open" hard just because and worrying on others, pls don't.I just showed the reason (or one of them) given by Opera.

"...\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera...".But this is not the folder to where a file is downloaded when you choose "Open" instead of "Save". Those files usually ends in your %temp% folder.

You're right...<abbr title="There's a folder there - in that location."> </abbr>

As I said, it's in the usual place.
All you need is to right-click on any such temporary file/download line/item in your "Downloads" page, and choose "Open folder". That's it. -

What's the difference! You once take it - make an icon for it somewhere (and remember the path).
Usually in truOpera, large enough files go through opening the "Downloads" page. Even small ones happen to sometimes. So you'll have lots of opportunities for taking/accessing/whatevering your "temporary_dowloads" folder. Save you can just search for it with its name*:P*And besides, the developers may deliver for that - e.g. making such a folder known, or even user defined (to an extent).
Though, as I said, it won't ever be a problem for anybody (see previous replies).
