Above all, the option "Open" does exactly mean that the user does not give Scheiße about WHERE the browser's gonna shove it to, right?
Should be, but many people thinks that "open" means that nothing will be downloaded and the file will be gone after have been closed, what is not necessarily true.

I'm not against options but adding them just for having them is not good.

It you really care it could be done that typing "open" means puting the file to temp folder which could be cleared automatically on exit or whatever. I don't really care how it would work, I know how it was done @ 12 and it was ok for me, "Open" option @ dialogbox is a must.
Opera downloads a lot of files to the temp without asking you for accept, there could be dangerous files also so give a break. -

Just for curiosity, your tag/icon leads to which folder?
I was wrong - "About Opera" now does not show that path among others.
"...\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera...". -

It's just my opinion based on lots of post in the old forum during Presto years from people who managed to have problems due to Opera having lots of options and features.
Btw, it would be more like "I'm not sure about the directions to somewhere, suddenly the road gives me 3, 4 different ways to take. Which one should i choose? If i choose the wrong one, how can i come back to this point to be able to choose another?"

"...\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera...".But this is not the folder to where a file is downloaded when you choose "Open" instead of "Save". Those files usually ends in your %temp% folder.

As I said, it's in the usual place.
All you need is to right-click on any such temporary file/download line/item in your "Downloads" page, and choose "Open folder". That's it. -

What's the difference! You once take it - make an icon for it somewhere (and remember the path).
Usually in truOpera, large enough files go through opening the "Downloads" page. Even small ones happen to sometimes. So you'll have lots of opportunities for taking/accessing/whatevering your "temporary_dowloads" folder. Save you can just search for it with its name*:P*And besides, the developers may deliver for that - e.g. making such a folder known, or even user defined (to an extent).
Though, as I said, it won't ever be a problem for anybody (see previous replies). -

SO LET THEM IMPLEMENT such a thing as "Full list of downloads"

U made my day, that is masterpiece to set having one more (ergo, two together options) against such dilemmas
The Opera won't hurt you, but in case somebody else would also have such serious problems 'choosing dilemma', he would always RTFM first. -

One of the things I really disklike about Chrome is that it clutters up my HDD by automatically saving everything to the Downloads folder. 90% of my downloads are a one-time thing, and I want them saved to a temporary folder which is periodically automatically cleared out (such as C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Temp for Windows, \tmp\ for Linux, and the equivalent for Macs). If I actually do want a file permanently, then 90% of the time I want it saved somewhere besides the Downloads folder. That leaves 1% of the time in my usage scenario when the default behavior works for me.
It's one of the killer features I like about Internet Explorer (gasp!). Everyone has their niggling annoyances, and this is mine. Opera 12.xx let us do what we wanted, and when y'all developers have time, I would really appreciate this feature. Good job on getting bookmarks a big part of the way there, though!

i have never liked the download manager of opera mini.it should support background download.
btw....some comments here are too lenghty.summarise them.we dont need any president's speech here. -
