Google Hangouts calls stopped working on Opera, work on all other browsers

As of this evening, when I try to make a call on Google Hangouts using Opera, I get this, no matter what device I use:
This only happens in Opera on multiple devices. Hangouts calling works just fine on Edge & Chrome, so this is an Opera-only issue, and it happens on Opera for all devices.
I have had Opera installed for months with no recent re-installs and no known updates. Everything was fine earlier today and nothing changed to my knowledge.

@annoyed-at-updates It's also happening with Opera GX. It doesn't work in incognito either. An older version might work since it started failing after yesterday's update. Using Firefox for now

How do I access an older version of Opera?
And is there a way to stop Opera from automatically updating? This is blatantly unethical to jam updates down my throat, esp. with the outcome of loss of performance. This one particular function is so important that if I can't do it on Opera, there's no point in me using Opera at all.

@annoyed-at-updates To get old versions, see www.opera.com/download.
To stop automatic updates, check the FAQ

hey, thanks for the pointers.
i tried a variety of older versions and now none of them are able to complete a Google Hangouts call.
i'm not having this issue with any other browser, and this is a core of my internet usage so i guess i have to jump ship.

@annoyed-at-updates Thanks for confirming that. Then it's probably an issue with some Hangouts update I hope Opera can fix it soon

@annoyed-at-updates Most probably because the issue has nothing to do with an update of Opera but with some change in Google Hangouts, that ended up breaking the workarounds done to make the page usable in Opera.

that makes complete sense, yeah. alright, so i'm still annoyed at updates being shoved down my throat, but i'm annoyed at Google's updates instead of Opera's! i now know what my true enemy is!
