12.15 forces Google as search engine

I've found a temporary solution for myself. I just removed the search field from the address bar. I set the "s" as a keyword for "startpage search" and now I search directly from the address bar with "s" in front of the keywords (as in the old times ) It's very annoying though! The same as Opera on Android where you can't change the default search engine on anything else than google.

I use F2 to bring up the address field then type s before search word. I totally agree with you that it is still very annoying.

I've gone back to 12.14 for now, as it was starting to get on my nerves keep having to change my default back to Startpage.com and delete the stupid and unwanted google search every time i started Opera. Grrrrr!!!. :irked:
Oh, and thanks mimi_s_mum, i thought it had already been reported ?.

Oops! ... I guess duplicates are still better than no report.
Meanwhile I've set Wikipedia as the default search engine to stop accidental gurgling :p and continue to use keyword search with "s" for startpage. :wait:

Yes, there's no problem with it... I haven't said here before that I've done that, definitely more people also reported it.

I did it first! 383945 < 384117 < 384235. I'm winning!
Let's see if someone beats me. haha -

Except Opera defaults to other engines in other countries, such as Yandex in Russia.
Google and Yandex are enemies and at war over the Eastern European search market, and yet Opera ships with Yandex as the default search engine over there.
And yet Opera loves Google?
Your inane claims are getting more and more silly by the second.

Let's see if someone beats me. hahaThere is no point doing that, one bug report is enough. Duplicates just waste the developers time.
What should be done is whoever reports the bug first then posts the bug number (minus the @xxxxxxxxx.) in the relevant thread. That way everyone else knows the bug has-been reported and no one else wastes the developers time with unnecessary duplicates. -

Thats because Opera has a deal with Yandex in Russia and Google in the US.

Exactly. Which is why comments like "Opera is in love with Google. There is a reason why it defaults to Google." are insanely stupid.

Sorry for my interruption. Instead of answering a moderator linked my thread over here and closed it. And I confess to be to annoyed by this Opera-problem to read so much postings in foreign language. So please allow me this question:
Are there already any solutions or at least workarounds?

Reverting to 12.14 as mentioned in the OP.

Good to see this is a known problem. I already reinstalled opera for this issue but will go back to a previous version now. I find it bloody annoying to have Google as default. (preferring Startpage as my default)

I have upgraded from Opera 12.14 to the 12.15, but it doesn't seem to have this issue for me.

Going back to 12.14 here also. This is sick. If there will be no workaround Im going to firefox.
By the way. There is an addon:https://addons.opera.com/pl/extensions/details/searchbox-toolbar-for-opera/?display=en
which could possibly get rid of the problem, but:1. It is discontinued
2. Somebody would have to write adding new search engine
And this could be a solution/workaround. -

Try search keywords. It's more efficient regardless.

Hey, if the developers won't waist time, they just should go OPEN bugtracker, like real software does. All Opera to blame.
That nobody knows which bugreport is filled and which not wastes also time for user who report bugs.
Many of us preach since years that the bugreport system is broken by design.
YMMV
