Hi leocg. I cant mark them unread at all. Whenever I right click on a mail that option is greyed out.

If you're in the Unread access point, they are marked as unread.
There are 3 possible states for a message to be listed in. If the list item is boldface and blue, then the item has never been seen. If the list item is bold and black, then you have seen it but it is still officially unread (you didn't mark it as read). And if the list item is normal weight and black, then it has been marked as read (whether or not you've actually seen it) ... but of course read items don't show under Unread.

Hi burnout. I'm confused. When I go to my Inbox under my account (with my email address heading on top as opposed to 'All Messages'), I click on an email to 'Mark as Read' to see if I can then right click it back to 'Mark as Unread'. But when that happens, the amil disappears from the list. I dont get it! Why does it do this? Where does it go?

You'll find it in the 'Received' filter, because it no longer fits the criteria to be listed in the 'Unread' filter, because it is no longer unread.

Do you have "show read" checked for your Inbox?

That's what I'd look for too. It's under the "settings for this view" button on the message list toolbar for each view.

Ahh yes.. I did check "show read" and I see the mail copied over to 'Received'. But the problem is that once I mark mail as unread, it doesn't change back to blue and bold. Thats exactly what I want to happen. How do I change it back to blue and bold?

Are you serious? Theres got to be a way to change it back to blue. Burnout, care to chime in with your expertise please? Maybe the solution is in tweaking a file?

Yes.
Theres got to be a way to change it back to blue.
There's no way to clear the "is_seen" status of a message in Opera. You can change that bit by modifying the x-opera-status header in the mbs file for the message that's in the mail/store folder. But, that header is just kind of informative. The real status flags that Opera uses for a message are in omailbase.dat. If you can reverse-engineer that file and write a program to do what you want, you might accomplish the task.
You can try:
-
Making a copy of the mbs file.
-
Modifying the X-Opera-Status header in the copy so that the is_seen flag isn't set.
-
Shift + DEL-ing the message in Opera to permanently delete it (and its mbs file).
-
Import the copy back into the account (would have to be a POP account) using the "Menu -> settings -> import and export -> import mail -> import generic mbox" wizard.
But, that might not even work either as I don't know/remember if the importer will take the X-Opera-Status header into account.
How could you "unsee" something?
Exactly this. No joke.
Don't know if it's possible to change the colors so unread uses blue.
You might be able to mess with the colors in the "Colors" section in opera:config to tweak the bold black to make it blue. You might have to use the "system color scheme" color scheme option in Opera with the "Opera Standard" skin and modify the appearance colors in Windows. But, even if you do all that, it'd still just be unread and not also unseen.
In short, there's practically no way to do what you want.
But, for IMAP, I guess you could unsubscribe from the IMAP folder and resubscribe. Or, save the message, delete it from the server, import it into a POP account and drag it to the Inbox IMAP folder via IMAP and mark it as unread (with a different client or instance of Opera). Or, for POP, you could do the same and when the POP account sees the new message, it'll be Unread and Unseen.
With all that said though, Opera uses 3 states as sgunhouse said. Opera isn't really meant to work with "mark as read" set to anything but "manually". You get the message, open it and then after you've really read it, you can mark it as read to tell Opera if it's really read. If you use "mark as read after 1 second" for example, just opening the message will mark it as read even if you didn't read it. In other words, just selecting items in the message list when the preview pane is turned on will mark messages as read on ya.

Hi, burnout. Can you please tell me where in opera:config I should be looking?
Also, I saw something in opers:config called, 'color scheme mode'. Do you know what this does by any chance?

linuxmint, I dont know what youre talking about. On a thread I created under another username, you were extremely rude, stubborn and insulting. Everyone here gets a thanks from me. But YOU will NEVER get any from me. The only 2 people I respect here are burnout and sgunhouse. They know all about Opera. But you dont know shit!!
Dont reply on ANY of my threads from now on. Make yourself useful and go outside your house for once. Troll someplace else.

Proves your personality shows through no matter what user name you post via. Oh, and you have no idea what I know, and rude is not one of them, but respect definitely is.

The only person I'm finding extremely rude, stubborn and insulting right now is ... well.. take a look in the mirror.
