@gmel how did you disable automatic updates ? I have tried 10+ different ways and like malware it always reappears!

@hucker nope no bad words and certainly none as used by some on this post line .. maybe didn't like my opinions on Opera? and the inability to edit or control it anymore and its self replicating auto update !

@hucker actually I just agreed with you on both counts ! wonder why that was greyed out LOL?

Opera doesn't fit my needs anymore with this (forced) update and all these useless (mal)functions.
It is not the first time that Opera devs ignore their users feelings and aspirations. Remember Opera Mail.
Moreover, as Opera has been a chromium-based browser for years and given the Web Environment Integrity issue, it is now time for me to switch to Firefox.
Thanks for these wonderful years. All good things must come to an end.

I have tried to submit a bug report form through the Jira service desk. Both times, the system just flagged them as "Done", closing my issue, just because I'm encountering a bug in regards to update (it errors out and re-install does not help). Why does Opera even have Jira service desk and bug report form, when they just discard all of the reports?

Damn. Opera had become my browser of choice, due largely to the way it implemented Workgroups, but when I foolishly installed Opera One I lost all my saved tabs in all my workgroups. I don't like the redesigned interface, either. As others have mentioned, I could reinstall the last preOpOne version, but then there would be no new security upgrades as needed.
Oh, well. Opera goes to the back burner for now. Time to give Vivaldi another look. At least Vivaldi also has workgroups.

The year is 2023 and still these few problems do not suit opera
1- It is ridiculous that after the password or username change of the site login, we come across the information of the logins made to the old sites in other synchronized opera browsers.
2- Why still can’t the plug-ins I have installed before be synchronized
3- I reinstalled opera gx and why do I have to spend 10 minutes redoing the internal settings I made in opera gx before?
4- Opera is no longer what it used to be. it bloats and gives errors. So that's why it uses a lot of ram and resources.. -

Only useful thing I could sync beyween my two devices was the bookmarks. Extensions and theme should be synced too.

Are you kidding or something, bring back the old design, the new garbage is absolutely inconvenient and useless

Well, I've been an opera user for over 20 years but with this new version I think it's time to start looking for something else.
Losing the speed dial button and that god awful splash screen at startup is just pointless and annoying.
It was a good 2 decades, so thanks all at Opera. Good luck in the future.
If anyone has recommendations for a replacement browser, let me know!

Let's do it. If you decide to completely kill the opera, then at least make it possible to turn off automatic updates and post previous versions on the site so that people can choose the version themselves.

@martin-s The problem is, there are millions of users who are not saying anything and there are only dozens here who are complaining. I doubt the engineers are going to worry about a few dozen people not liking this or that. Also, it was brought home to me that Opera is not going to run with two versions of the desktop browser (other than their gaming GX browser). And remaining in the older, pre-updated version isn't a viable option either since it will not receive security updates. Bottom line: we'll have to learn to live with it and hope for the changes we've asked for OR we'll have to migrate elsewhere (i.e. Brave, Vivaldi, Firefox...). Probably Vivaldi is the most reasonable alternative for most.

this is crazy that yall insisted on adding this Loud splash screen to Opera, and what worst is that you can't disable it ️
noone asked for a splash screen... i was fine at first when the splashscreen only appeared after relaunching the browser after an update. but its just annoying now, in fact i opened a new TAB the other day and the splash screen briefly launched ️ so not only is it unnecessary but buggy. the "flags" option to disable does Not work
and why oh why have yall not fixed the speed dial button. most opera users don't even use the sidebar...please relocate the speeddial button to just left of the address bar, that is the best place for it
i dunno why the programmers are adding stuff noone cares about and messing with things that ppl like. it doesnt make sense. if something works leave it alone. noone cares about a loud splash screen where you have to run and turn your volume down.. get rid of it..this is rediculous

I installed opera on on my windows 10 computer because I wanted to play with the Aria function.
I created a Opera account and also setup sync. I made some configuration changed and played with Aria a bit. Rather underwhelming I must say.
I decided to also install opera on my laptop and was rather disappointed to find out that almost nothing got synced.- No side bar configuration.
- the extension I installed was not synced
- Speeddial wasn't synced.
I set thing up to sync everything so this was a let down
I even waited a fair amount of time an rebooted the laptop.
This all worked a lot better with the Brave Browser.

@uberprutser It's known that extensions are not synced.
Regarding Speed Dials, as also known, you can see the Speed Dials from other devices in Other Speed Dials and you can copy them to your current Speed Dial in the bookmarks manager page (opera://bookmarks).

@leocg I just installed Opera on a second laptop and so far the only thing that was synced is the page that is opened after starting. I got a feeling there is something wrong with the sync chain because this is rather underwhelming. And brave does sync extensions.
