I think YouTube/Google fights itself with adblocks so its not Opera fault. But Opera should fix it.

This new version of Opera - 27-07-2023 No longer seems to block ads on Youtube. Any solutions? That to me was it's best feature. Thanks.

So now I have the all new and modernized Opera browser which I am not crazy about. I don't know if the updated look has anything to do with it but right after the update, the Ad Blocker is not working on YouTube anymore. Is this due to the update or did YouTube find a workaround for ad blockers?

i think it's a problem with the update. I tried other browsers with adblock and they work just fine. also found a post asking about the same thing from 2021 (adblock not working, youtube saying your offline) but no solution over there either.

@graywoulf Based on recent news, I guess it's the later.
https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/29/23778879/youtube-videos-disabling-ad-blockers-detection
https://www.androidpolice.com/youtube-ad-blockers-three-strikes/
By the way, it's no that difficult for sites to bypass adblockers if they want.

For me (on Opera developer) add blocking in YT started to work again, a couple of days ago.

@graywoulf Well YouTube has lost me as a viewer, there's no way their average content is worth the stupid, stupid ads they pump out - it's offensive to me. they are trash.
And in turn, why Opera if i can find another browser that actually blocks "the trash"

@operationode said in Ad block not working on YouTube after update.:
I noticed that and I add uBlock Origin > no more ad on YT
Thank you very much for that tip. It works like a charm on YT.

I'll give Opera 3 days to fix this otherwise I'll be looking for a new trustworthy browser.

Your "ad blocker" doesn't work! After the last update you broke everything! When I start Youtube I see ads, ads, more ads!

Add uBlock Origin to your Opera browser and there will be no more ads on YT and other web sites as well. Just Google it and add it to your Opera browser. It is easy to do and it works great!

@graywoulf I think it might be a bit of both. I'm getting MS ads on outlook.com as well even though "acceptable" ads are also supposed to be blocked in my settings, not only on YouTube.

Hi!
Built-in adblock in Opera works horrible since version 99. Can someone please fix it? Didn't anyone noticed it since that release? Its so frustrating... In major cases, adblock does not work on first page opening but only after reloading the page. On YouTube, since few days, even reloading does not help...
One of the best features in Opera for me is built-in adblock, so I do not have to install any third party plugins... well it was until it stopped working as it should.

@kyeq said in The adblocker is not working topic (Opera for Desktops):
This has been happening for several months now, but my adblocker(Yes, its enabled) has been failing to function. For some examples, youtube and crunchyroll are showing ads even though its enabled. Do I uninstall and reinstall?
I think I speak for quite a few when I would rather watch a episode on crunchyroll without an ad after the OP, in the middle, and at the end totaling for about 9 mins of ads for a 23 minute episode. This issue has persisted for several months, despite having my adblocker enabled. Notably, platforms like YouTube and Crunchyroll are displaying ads even though the adblocker is turned on. Should I consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the adblocker?
I believe I'm not alone in this sentiment when I express a preference for watching episodes on Crunchyroll without advertisements interrupting the viewing experience – particularly after the opening sequence, during the middle, and at the end. These interruptions can amount to a total of about 9 minutes of ads for a 23-minute episode.

One more ad company being shown here unrelated to Google or Microsoft. This one is on a random website
Ironically, the last one is a tech tips page and the article is about blocking ads lmao
Ok, I guess it's time for me to move out of Opera again. Unfortunately I can't use Chrome or Firefox at work because I need them clean for my software development, so I'll end up using Edge this time and just put AdGuard and a Speed Dial extension on it.
Good luck, guys. It was nice knowing you. I'll try getting back from time to time and see if this is fixed and if the modularisation actually made the browser modular or if it ended up just being a fancy way to say "round UI"
