  • Maybe I'm an idiot, but I can't find the most basic options, for example:

    Deactivate GX Corner.

    Customize start-page.

Maintain settings for CPU and RAM limiters between sessions.

Block history saving without using private mode.

Any help would be highly appreciated, I love the GX GUI, but the settings are too confusing to me.

  • @jelikuber83

    Deactivate GX Corner

You can enable the option to put GX Corner on sidebar but I'm not sure if you can disable it

    Customize start-page
Block history saving without using private mode.

    Not possible.

  • Hi, it has come to my notice that while streaming or screen sharing Opera GX through Discord, instead of the actual screen appearing it is just a plain black screen. Considering that GX is a gaming browser and Discord is used by gamers and others, it would be a valid point to also add support for screensharing via Discord in the browser.

  • Hi! Request some help: my default search engine is Google, but on speed dial page GX set me Yandex. How can i change that?

    Thanks for any help!

  • Hello. For some reason Opera GX when looking for update theres a error.

  • I was wondering why the changelog does no reflect the latest releases?

Currently the latest changelog is for core: 71.0.3770.449 but I have core: 72.0.3815.459 installed.

Where are the changelogs for v 72 ?

    Thanks

I should have mentioned that this is the forum/changelog I was talking about

    https://forums.opera.com/topic/33033/opera-gx-update-released

    • The current Opera release is 73 and Chromium/Chrome release is 77.
However, OperaGX still uses Opera 72 and Chromium 86 as base. It should be updated.

    • The release notes for some of the last updates (the last one is for OperaGX 71.x and current version is 72.x) are missing from the update thread. (https://forums.opera.com/topic/33033/opera-gx-update-released)
They are probably small patches, but it is confusing.

    • Lastly, according to https://html5test.com/, Opera has no Speech Recognition, where as
when I test on Chrome it says Prefixed with green check mark. Perhaps add that? I searched it
a little and some people say Opera already has it but not enabled?

Update: Chrome 88 is out, also I said "and Chromium/Chrome release is 77" wrongly, it was should be 86 as later said in the above post, too.

  • my opera browser just updated again and I have no release notes or changelog to read as the above forum links are incorrect. is anyone going to fix this?

That forum post is probably no longer updated, or only updated for major changes or new features. These type of patch updates only update base chromium version or just apply a quick patch. (i.e bug fixes or security fixes)

opera://update/ page checks for updates if you are running an Opera or Opera based OperaGX browser.

https://ftp.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera_gx/ lists all OperaGX versions with their downloads. The last entry will be the latest available version. (currently 72.0.3815.473)

  • Hello, the topic of Opera GX does not receive more updates? we are in version 72.0.3815.473, but it still contains 71.0.3770.449: https://forums.opera.com/topic/33033/opera-gx-update-released

  • @mustafaoncel Why does Opera GX use an older version of Chromium than Opera? Doesn't that interfere with speed and safety? Since Opera GX was released for gamers, in addition to customization and also speed..

I honestly don't know too. It's currently 2 major versions behind of Chromium and 1 major versions behind of Opera. Current release is Opera 73 (which has Chromium 87 as base), but it is using Opera 72 as base (which has Chromium 86 as base); but the latest Chrome/Chromium is 88.

So they are both behind but the normal Opera will get the Opera 74 update soon I think, but for OperaGX I don't know.

I hope it will be updated and the updates are released in the same day with the Opera/Chrome/Chromium.

Chances that this will happen are very low.

  • @mustafaoncel I installed the Beta version, at least so I will always have the latest Chromium version, and as I always like to see new features before, the Beta is a good way. But I really hope that the Opera team thinks well about this issue of the built-in translator, because as I am Brazilian and most of the things I read are in English, I need to use Edge or Chrome to read the news, and this is very annoying , having to open another browser just to be able to use the translate function.

Well maybe not same day but in a week or such, maybe? It should not be that hard since OperaGX is based on Opera and Opera has already updated to Chromium 87 and a beta version of Opera that uses Chromium 88 is already available.

The features of OperaGX are not changing Chromium or Opera dramastically, right? Only adding new features on top of it. So it should not be that hard to update base Opera/Chromium versions.

The last major Opera/Chromium base bump happened on 16 December 2020 (from Opera 71 to 72/Chromium 85 to 86)

So the OperaGX last major update happened:

    • After 2 months 10 days of Chromium 86 release
    • After 1 months 25 days of Opera 72 release

So, the Opera 72 released 15 days later than Chrome 86 and OperaGX is updated to it after 1 months and 25 days.

The Opera's one is acceptable, it can be like in one week or maybe even in the same day if they start testing/implementing early through Chromium dev branches, but the OperaGXs one.. it seems a bit inactive, behind 2 major versions behind of chromium and updating to new chromium versions in 1.5 months.

Yes, I like seeing new features early too, but OperaGX has no beta channel or I can't find it unfortunately. I might switch to normal Opera but I like the design and additional features of OperaGX.

The translator thing can be good too but Chrome's one uses Google Translator; Opera does not have translator service and the API for Google Translate is not free as far as I know.

The https://translate.google.com/intl/en/about/website/ url can be used before for translating a full page without using another browser, but it currently says "We no longer provide new access to Google Translate's Website Translator. This change does not affect existing use of the Website Translator.

We encourage users looking to translate webpages to use browsers that support translation natively."
