GX is based on Opera but it is a different product with a different UI and different features.
Every time there is a Chromium intake, they need, I guess, to check if it isn't broking anything and it takes time. If there is something to be fixed, it may take even more time.

The features of OperaGX are not changing Chromium or Opera dramastically, right? Only adding new features on top of it. So it should not be that hard to update base Opera/Chromium versions.

Every change causes an impact.

The translator thing can be good too but Chrome's one uses Google Translator; Opera does not have translator service and the API for Google Translate is not free as far as I know.

To provide a page translation service, Opera would need to do a comercial agreement with Google, Microsoft or other online translation provider. And yes, it probably would cost them money.

The features of OperaGX are not changing Chromium or Opera dramastically, right? Only adding new features on top of it. So it should not be that hard to update base Opera/Chromium versions.

The last major Opera/Chromium base bump happened on 16 December 2020 (from Opera 71 to 72/Chromium 85 to 86)

So the OperaGX last major update happened:

After 2 months 10 days of Chromium 86 release

After 1 months 25 days of Opera 72 release

So, the Opera 72 released 15 days later than Chrome 86 and OperaGX is updated to it after 1 months and 25 days.

The Opera's one is acceptable, it can be like in one week or maybe even in the same day if they start testing/implementing early through Chromium dev branches, but the OperaGXs one.. it seems a bit inactive, behind 2 major versions behind of chromium and updating to new chromium versions in 1.5 months.

@mustafaoncel I installed the Beta version, at least so I will always have the latest Chromium version, and as I always like to see new features before, the Beta is a good way. But I really hope that the Opera team thinks well about this issue of the built-in translator, because as I am Brazilian and most of the things I read are in English, I need to use Edge or Chrome to read the news, and this is very annoying , having to open another browser just to be able to use the translate function.

Yes, I like seeing new features early too, but OperaGX has no beta channel or I can't find it unfortunately. I might switch to normal Opera but I like the design and additional features of OperaGX.

The translator thing can be good too but Chrome's one uses Google Translator; Opera does not have translator service and the API for Google Translate is not free as far as I know.

The https://translate.google.com/intl/en/about/website/ url can be used before for translating a full page without using another browser, but it currently says "We no longer provide new access to Google Translate's Website Translator. This change does not affect existing use of the Website Translator.

We encourage users looking to translate webpages to use browsers that support translation natively."

I honestly don't know too. It's currently 2 major versions behind of Chromium and 1 major versions behind of Opera. Current release is Opera 73 (which has Chromium 87 as base), but it is using Opera 72 as base (which has Chromium 86 as base); but the latest Chrome/Chromium is 88.

That forum post is probably no longer updated, or only updated for major changes or new features. These type of patch updates only update base chromium version or just apply a quick patch. (i.e bug fixes or security fixes)
