@mikeogghertz This is a very uninformed comment. Without any further information it could just have been possible you activated Opera VPN and of course your "destination" in that case would be whereever the VPN server is located. The same would happen with any other browser in the same situation.

@jdmbeastmode having or not having an anti-virus software installed has nothing to do with this issue. I of course do have one though.

@burnout426 i did not have the internal VPN turned on, I went through the settings before I started using the browser. I have a subscription based external VPN Client that I am using when I need to, that one also wasn't turned on. Also it certainly wouldn't have been set to South East Asia.

@53-north so you're telling me opera GX might route my traffic through somewhere in Southeast Asia for no reason and without telling me. I never heard of any browser doing that in my life and if it's true it's still a breach of trust.

@jkels you're calling me uninformed but just assume I don't know what a VPN is. Well I do and there wasn't any turned on so that explanation goes out the window.

I will not discuss this any further, as I said I'm done with opera Software. This post was just supposed to be a warning about the experience I've had. Maybe I'm overreacting but trust was breached.

@mikeogghertz Opera doesn't do that. Unless, of course, if you are using the VPN.

@leocg They don't use the clearest path / pipelines?
You get the choice with some compression browsers to have 'nearest' server / clearest server / etc, feed the traffic -

@mikeogghertz If the servers in Iceland & Poland are too busy, I believe I've seen it happen occasionally (in the noughties).

I had Opera GX on my computer and it was really shady. I tried to love it, but it did not open the web pages with valid login credentials, so i had to change all passwords for security reasons. And also my window manager did not allow me to arrange the opera browser, but for some reason that app window was not registered as the other windows apps did. It was shady and broken.

@jkels Yeah, that has to be it. Opera GX's connections are direct and don't run through any servers (any Turbo compression servers or anything) when the VPN is off.

@ponakka The window manager is mostly a problem on your side. Whereas not opening websites with valid login credentials are only present when the VPN is on and running.
