How can I restore my last session?

I know where the files are supposedly located but I have no idea what to do with them. Which ones should I replace? hre's some screenshots.

should I just give up and start new? I had hoped this would never happen again when I made the move from waterfox.

If you go up one directory, you'll see "Current Session", "Last Session", "Current Tabs", "Last Tabs".

You can overwrite those with backups you have or the delete Current ones and rename the Last files to Current to restore the last session. But, you might want to open the Last files in a text editor to see if you can find the URLs for your opens tabs etc. to see if it'd even help.
