Opera Crashing on Startup

Opera is a really wonderful browser. I prefer using it over Chrome and Edge because of the easy access social media shortcuts in the sidebar. The different workspaces also make it easier for me to organize my tabs and separate school and personal without having to open different windows. However, there are only instances when I can open Opera on my laptop. There are times that it opens for a second before exiting immediately. No matter how many times I try to open it after that, it won't load into the homepage. I noticed that it happens when my laptop accidentally goes to sleep or shuts down with the browser open, as when I open my laptop the browser is closed and it will crash when I try to open it. I have tried reinstalling it a lot of times and minimizing the number of extensions that I use. I also read that turning off the JavaScript can help, but it also didn't work and just made it hard for me to use the social media shortcuts. My laptop is a Windows 10. What should I do?

Download https://ftp.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera/desktop/71.0.3770.198/win/Opera_71.0.3770.198_Setup_x64.exe, launch the installer, click "options", set "install path" to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import data from default browser", and install. Does that Opera open?

Thank you! I'm following your instructions right now. Is there an actual folder named "Opera Test" or do I have to make it and put it on my desktop? Also, the "Install for" is greyed out and set to "Current user" for me. I tried clicking it but it doesn't let me change the setting.

@omgdanieee You need to change the folder/directory where Opera will be installed, so that you can change the install for field.

@leocg Thank you for the clarification! I just did as you said and installed it. It worked when I opened the launcher. I tried to restart my laptop to see if it worked properly every time. Sadly, it went back to crashing when I tried to open it after I restarted my laptop.

@omgdanieee So even that test installation is having the issue?

@omgdanieee Okay. You're having an issue that quite a few Opera users are having (most are Opera GX users, but not all). Opera is working on figuring out what the problem is.

@burnout426 Oh okay. Guess I'll just be waiting for a while. Thank you for trying to help me!
