Is it possible to close just the current web page instead of the whole tab and all it's contents? A while back I tried a few custom button but they all just closed the whole tab. Any ideas?

- "Its".
- Couldn't get it: there are only two options - to close a tab or to close a window, I can't see what you're referring to here yet. M?
Is it that you want to somehow eliminate a page from the tab's history???

in your toolbar.ini use one of these custom buttons:
Button, "SpeedDial"="Go to page, "opera:speeddial", , "SpeedDial", """
Button, "Blank Page"="Go to page, "about:blank", , "Blank", """

Well, there seems to be some confusion as to what I mean and I probly didn't state it correctly. So if one is in the habit of reusing tabs, one can quickly have a tab with a raft of unrelated websites. What I was hoping for is some "easy" way to see what's in the tab and to close the ones I don't want anymore.
Far as I can tell, the way it is now hovering over a tab only shows the most recent page. Would be better if hovering would show a horizontal grid of thumbnails or even a list view of all pages with a close button.

Well there are a number of ways you can get a list of opened tabs, some with previews and close buttons, some without.
-
Right click and hold anywhere on a web page and move the mouse scroll wheel up and down, but this only shows the preview of the currently selected tab, and no option to close a tab via that view.
-
Enable the Windows list in the panel (F4), which gives you a list of opened tabs and a preview when hovering each tab title. Option to close each tab is via the right click menu.
-
'Enable thumbnails in tabs' via right clicking a tab and selecting 'Customise / Enable thumbnails in tabs' from the menu, which gives you a preview of each tab as it's displayed (without hovering), can be adjusted for size (by dragging down the bottom border) and has a close button for each tab preview.

Thanks. But I am not looking for a list of opened tabs, as I can see the tabs in the tab bar. Rather its the contents of the tab that are not easy to view and manage. I searched extensions pretty extensively and everything is about tabs and not the contents.. sigh

"It's".
You have the navigation buttons, holding one of them gives you a sequence of visited pages in that direction.
Unless you wanna use 'history'. Though I'm not aware of any 'history for the tab' that you can actually manage - only of that history page overall where you're able to do something to the items (I'm not sure about deleting.
Anyway, if you move back to a point after which you don't want pages to persist in the tab's history and just use it from that page in the way you want, the previous ''forward'' history will get lost (though not from the overall history). -

According to what you said here:
Would be better if hovering would show a horizontal grid of thumbnails or even a list view of all pages with a close button.
Option 3 in the list of ideas I posted seem most fitting from what I can tell.
But I am confused by what you mean by contents. Are you looking for a full sized, real-time preview of all tabs opened, so you can see (read) the contents as if you were looking at the normal web page ?.

What I imagine is to hover over a tab and it will show either thumbnails or list of the pages visited in that tab, with a close button (X). Wish I knew how to make extensions

Yes, you guessed right, I just could not see/find it, that's all.

If you have switched to a tab, you can view that tab's "local history" through click-and-hold on the Back/Forward buttons or keyboard shortcuts (in the "9.2 Compatible" setup anyway). But you do have to switch to the tab first - no way to do it while a different tab is focused. And, no way to remove something from the local history other than going back to a previous item then browsing somewhere else - which removes every later item from the history.
If Opera is closed, you could edit the session file (it isn't hard), but that's the only way to be selective about it (keeping both earlier and later items).

So does anyone know if it's possible to make such an extension, to hover over a tab and get thumbnails or list view of tab history with the ability to close them. If its possible I could attempt to learn how to make extensions and do it myself. Otherwise don't want to waste my time. Thanks

Dude, "close them" means make them not active. They're already not active - they're history!:)

Well we disagree. To me if its still there in the list waiting on me to hit the back or forward button then it is active, heck, it even takes be back to position I was on the page. They can be overwritten somehow but I think you know what I mean.
For example, if one starts to type in the address bar it pops up history of typed searches and hovering over any of the items show a "close button" an actual x. Its not a new concept, I am just wondering if this can be implemented into the tabs history as well so that hovering over a tab will show that history. I believe I would need less tabs like that
I mean tabs are Ok, but they can be a pain also. I am constantly opening in new tabs and browse with the history panel open just not to get lost
