Opera Next 24 was too slow to be usable for me. Some pages would never load. Shockwave Flash was having major difficulty too. I saw two Opera folders (23... & 24...) in Program Files, so I renamed the new one, and copied the old version number over all instances in the installation_status.xml file.

• Windows 8.0 Pro, Single-core Pentium 4, 2.8GHz, 3GB RAM using 1GB as RAMDrive (x:) for cache & temp files.

Opera 24 has switched to "Pepper Flash" (the plugin that comes with Chrome) by default, if you've never installed Chrome then it probably has no working version of Flash. Haven't seen your other issue and can't comment on it.
