I'm a Vivaldi user, but I do have some questions about the Opera browser. I switched over from Chrome (and before that, Firefox) so I never really used Opera.
When Opera Neon came out, I gave it a try and I liked it for the most part, but my one qualm was that I didn't like having a smaller page display screen in order to fit stuff on the sides of the screen.
From what I've heard, the features of Neon were implemented into the newer versions of Opera. Is this correct? Also, what changed between this version and the older ones?
I also have some concerns about privacy and protecting personal information as I recall reading somewhere that Opera was sold to a Chinese company. Is that still the case?

Yes and no. Some were and may be implemented in Opera, while others weren't.
Also, what changed between this version and the older ones?
When there is a new release, a changelog is also made available so people can see what was implemented, what was implemented, etc.
Main new features and/or changes are also mentioned in the release posts.
I recall reading somewhere that Opera was sold to a Chinese company. Is that still the case?
Opera is a Norwegian company owned by a Chinese group.

Not particularly knowledgeable about every aspect of browsers, but I have an ancient computer, so Iām always switching, looking for something that runs well. I used Chrome for a while but it was resource heavy, so I tried Firefox after a long absence. I used to love it, the latest one though was appalling for me, websites were terrible, speed was slow and videos crashed it.

(I know its Vivaldi because if I quit it then Windows becomes snappy responsive again instead of painfully slow - and I'm not near my RAM usage limit either when it happens)
is there anything superior - e.g. speed about opera's built in ad blocker vs an extension like ad guard? or is it essentially just an extension as well, so playing by the same rules?
how can I open web pages in the sidebar?

At the moment, you can't. In Opera developer builds, you can enable an experiment that allows users to add sites to the sidebar.

@narutikli64 Regarding the adblocker, I guess the best thing would be to test it for a few days.

There is an experimental feature that allows you to add sites to the sidebar.

does desktop opera version 73 include a vpn? a website I use has now required the use of a vpn for the news site I use. No Free vpn I tried works for various reasons I do not understand. does Opera's really work or am I locked out of the content provided by a specific website? as of now I need to use a different website to access the same news site. solutions please. I will try Opera to access the same news site and see what happens. it will be a yes or no. no other choices or fixes.

Is Opera safe and does it respect privacy and security like Brave and Firefox Does. I ask because it seems opera does not have a good reputation when it comes to privacy and security.

Is this information still true with Opera the Company https://forums.opera.com/topic/37155/opera-browser-is-owned-by-a-chinese-company/10. and what I'm trying to say is Opera Just as safe as Brave and Firefox with you data and Privacy? sorry if the grammar does not make since I just did not know how to word that properly.
