Hi i use Opera 66.0.3515.27 portable editoin and i want to limit disk space cache. I has read there is "--disk-cache-size" and i must launch opera "C:\xxxxx\xxxxxx\launcher.exe" --disk-cache-size=xxxxx". My probleme is that in my opera portable version i don't have "laucher.exe". I run Opera with "C:\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Opera_portable\opera.exe --disk-cache-size=50000000" and i thihk thatdisk space limit is not working fine.

      Thanks for all
Pd. Sorry my deficient english level

You're probably not using the official Opera Portable. When you download the Opera installer from https://www.opera.com/download and launch it, you can click "options", set "install path" to the folder you want and "install for" to "standalone installation". That will install Opera Portable. There's even an Opera Portable link on the download page that gives you an installer that defaults to the "standalone installation" option.

"C:\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Opera_portable\opera.exe --disk-cache-size=50000000" and i thihk thatdisk space limit is not working fine.

Passing command-line switches to opera.exe should work fine if it's the actual opera.exe that Opera came with and not something some 3rd-party portable apps software created. Just make sure you have the right number of bytes that you want the limit to be. You wanted 50MB, right?

You'll have to research for Chromium what is supposed to happen if you have cache limited to 50MB for example and something you're downloading needs more to see if Opera/Chrome etc. is not following the command-line switch correct. Look at https://cloud.google.com/docs/chrome-enterprise/policies/?policy=DiskCacheSize for when it's set via a policy. They say it's a suggestion to the cache system and may be overridden.

Reference of the command-line setting is at https://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/#disk-cache-size.

Hi thanks. I replace my Opera portable current with a new "oficial" portable instalation and i have now launcher.exe. For a Pc with 8 GB Ram what value you think in "--disk-cache-size" is correct?

          Regards

@tipitao Not sure. I just leave it at the default. If I was going to have a limit, I'd have it set to a few GB for video/movie caching. But, it sounds like you only want a few MB.

@tipitao That command is to limit the cache only. So it won't limit the profile directory size.
