Opera crashes ~1 minute after being opened

  • I have this same problem and neither a clean profile nor clean reinstall fixed it. Opera works fine on another computer running the same Windows 10 version (1903), though.

  • @leocg
Ok, I'm still a little lost on this forum, but managed to find it. I didn't make a new profile per se, but I did delete those folders before the re-install, which should be equivalent(?).
I ended up running out of time to investigate, so I looked for an installer for a slightly older version (found it here somewhere) installed that, and renamed the auto-updater to something else for the time being.
I saw that ideally someone who posts here should also list the specs so here goes:
    CPU: Ryzen 7 1700
    RAM: 2x8GB HyperX Fury Black
    MOBO: ASUS B350m TUF Gaming
    GPU: RTX 2070
STORAGE 256GB m.2 SSD (this is where Opera is installed) + ~7TB of HDDs
Thanks for pointing me into the right direction, once the finals are over, I'm gonna revisit this and hopefully find a more permanent solution.

  • Same problem, I'm not flattered with Opera anymore, any update gets worst, they remove features I like and I'm seriuosly thinking on move out to Egde.

  • Edge is even worse. Vivaldi could be the alternative, but it is slower than Opera (excluding Opera 68).

  • I have exactly the same problem. Got this problem after updating to latest windows (1909) and latest opera. Opera just randomly close itself after being opened about minute and there is no error. I also have ryzen processor maybe that is the cause. On my laptop with Intel processor everything is working fine.

However opera GX is working without any problem. The same applies to Opera 67 that I have downgraded to. So I guess I'm not the only one with this problem.

Hope they will fix it soon.

  • @Pawemol12 i have intel and it crash too

  • @opera-user-from-2002 Yes. More users are reporting similar issues with this update.

  • I have the exact same problem ! I'm using GX and 67 in the meantime but I tried lots of solutions and none are working I have no idea where the problem is coming from.

  • @vaern I've been having the same problem for a couple weeks now, just been using chrome temporarily 'till it's fixed or I find a way to fix it.

  • I've been having the same issue since this morning, I had a few problems with my computer and had to restart it. Since then, Opera won't hold open for more than a minute.

  • Topic. Today, with no changes to a working setup, Opera started randomly quitting about a minute after it was opened. It doesn't appear to be a crash, as all the tabs I had open are reloaded with no issues. It's not limited to a tab either, as the multiple windows I routinely use all close simultaneously with no comments whatsoever.

I've tried recovering, clearing all user data, even uninstalling/reinstalling and the issue persists. I have to use firefox just to make this help request (and I hope it's in the right place, as the website conspicuously lacks any direct support). I'd like to keep using Opera, but I need it to work first.

  • Same, tired clean install with appdata removed but nothing helped... using GX while waiting for a fix-.-
Amd Ryzen cpu and amd vega gpu

  • i have the same problem. 3 days after windows update and opera update

  • Same issue here 😕

  • The latest Opera of as Today June 24, 20 keeps shutting down after 30 or so minuets. Uninstalling, Reinstalling, Cleaning up Folder no Help. It works only on start but then 30 seconds or so it shuts down with out any errors......

  • It crashes on any action in the O menu, also any attempt to set the new weather widget to "Your city" and who knows what else since I can't get past a crash. Uninstall, reinstall same deal. I'd put this in a bug report but it crashes on any input to the bug report. Anyone has access I have at least 15 crash reports in there. So maybe a mod can pass this along. Meanwhile I can make do with O 68

  • I gave up and downloaded Opera Developer. No more crashes. I simply synched the new Opera with my account and all was working as before. A pain but worth it. I am hoping the next update of standard opera fixes things.

  • Back again. The issue randomly stopped happening, then came right back after a windows update. I don't know if it's connected but if Opera is closing itself because of a windows security update I've got some Serious questions about what the hell it's doing to my system.

Edit : Restarting my PC again seems to have fixed the problem for now. But I shouldn't have to explain why "Restart and hope it works" isn't a solution.
