Where are Opera bookmarks stored in Windows 10

  • I have recently had to reinstall windows 10 on a solid state ( C: ) drive which is dedicated only to Windows 10. My data drive (D:) is separate and retained all my existing data, files etc.

    With the new install on the solid state drive I lost Opera and more importantly my bookmarks. My question is are they stored in windows and can they be recovered? My (D:) drive contains an exact copy of Windows program files which were not affected by the install, therefore are my bookmarks recoverable?

    I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

  • @Will48 They are stored in Bookmarks file at Opera's profile directory.
    Check Menu > Help > About Opera for the path.

    Also check for more info on Opera's main files and folders.

  • Hi @leocg

    Many thanks for your prompt reply. Following the route you suggested: C:\Users\wills\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable, I came across two files:

    1. Bookmarks. This was legible but appeared to mainly contain records of previously visited sites, eg
      "name": "tweetpolitics (@tweetonpolitics) | Twitter",
      "type": "url",
      "url": ""
      }, {
      "date_added": "13146681517104580",
      "id": "11",
      "meta_info": {
      "last_visited_desktop": "13183218635730325"

    2. BookmarksExtras. The size of the file makes more likely but is completely illegible:

    I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

  • Hi @leocg,

    Just realised the BookmarksExtra file is for image data, apologoies for my lack of concentration.
