Bookmarks gone?

@leocg Hi again! Btw, thanks for you time on the topic.
A sync shouldn't be a back up if it says it keeps the info on my "profile"? surely from now on I will backup manually...apparently I lost too many info to rely on this in the future.It was enable since I first downloaded Opera, I even had a similar scenario (reinstalled Opera and SO) and it worked perfectly. When I logged in all my bookmarks were perfectly restored.

@valerymartyshko It seems here. Although not sure if this is suitable for your case.

@DanAbiss said in Bookmarks gone?:
@burnout426 No they don't.
Then they are gone unfortunately.
But it did before I reinstall windows.
OK.
Do you know if we have a way to check "old info" on our login via Opera website?
Opera doesn't provide that option.
@DanAbiss said in Bookmarks gone?:
@leocg No. All gone! When checking there it shows as if I have never added anything. I am honestly freaking out.
Are you saying you check the "Bookmarks" file in your old profile that you said you still have on your drive with a text editor and none of your bookmarks are in there? If so, then you're definitely out of luck.
I personally wouldn't trust Sync. It's too brittle. If something weird happens with your profile while Sync is enabled, Sync can interpret that as everything being wiped out by you in that Opera and remove everything form the sync server. I don't trust it.
In the future, definitely goto the URL
opera://bookmarks
and export your bookmarks. In addition, goto the URLopera://about
and take note of the profile directory. Then, close Opera and back up the "Bookmarks" and "Bookmarks Extra" files. And, if you ever replace the Bookmarks and Bookmarks Extra files in an existing profile with your backups, use copies of the backups for replacements just in case the new Opera boogers them up. That way, you'll always have good copies laying around. -

@burnout426 I still have the folder in where Opera was installed. It is on a specific drive I do not erase when reinstalling windows. But, it seems that the program does not keep the Bookmarks there hahaha (not sure if I laugh or cry).
And sure, you are completely right. I will never rely on this for my bookmarks backup... maybe because it worked in the past I was full of trust that it would work again. Anyway, lesson learned.
