Opera 24 on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit not working

The new Opera 24 developer version doesn't even start. Nothing happens when I launch it. It I launch from the terminal I get this:
[0100/000000:FATAL:zygote_linux.cc(368)] Failed to synchronise with parent zygote process
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Does someone has a suggestion?

People were reporting a similar error in comments under the Desktop Team blog entry announcing this version. A suggestion that seemed to work for several people was to launch it with this command:

opera-developer --with-feature:first-run-import=false &

Which will disable the initial bookmark import - so should only need to be done once. According to posts elsewhere, this issue happens if Chromium is set as your default browser.
