Instant Search vs Omnibox

I'm not the most proficient surfer so apologies if I've overlooked something.
What are he advantages of an Instant Search over the Omnibox? I thought Omnibox was the evolution of the traditional URL/Address bar thus making Instant Search basically obsolete (Unless it can use a different SE ofcourse) Why is it there again?
Anyway, I was hoping to find an option to remove the instant search bar
I'd like the Omnibox to use DuckDuckGo and the Instant to use Google so If I could at least remove it then I'd replace it with a DDG Instant Search extension. Is this possible, can you use developer tools or scripts? Thanks.

@cb76 Instant Search allows you to do a search without needing to leave the page you are in.
It can be useful, for exemple, to search the meaning of a word, the location of a place, etc while reading an article.Instant Search only appears when you use Alt + Space and vanishes when you hit ESC. Instant Search can be disabled in settings.
It uses the same search engine used in the start page/speed dial search box. You can use a different search engine by using its keyword.

Funny, I use keyboard shortcuts all the time with my favorite programs yet haven't employed them for my browsing style whatsoever!
No wonder I was oblivious to it's actual function so excuse me while I up my surf game a tad.
Thank you @leocg.
