Opera wont allow me to delete previous search Qs

As I have search for subjects/items in other web sites, these stay in the search letter box, & don't delete.
I then get lots of search subjects there all the time.
How do I delete these previous searched for items?

Thanks for the reply, but no doesn't work.

I select the search box, several previous items come up in the drop down letterbox.
I pressed shift + delete. Item goes away. I click search box again, same items are there.
??? Most confusing.

I have also used shift + delete both together, (did you mean that) still no go.

Ps. I have 2 delete buttons on my keyboard 1 next to the return button & 1 in far right corner.??

@rayt You press shift and while it's pressed you press delete.

Still no go.
Tried it all ways.

I have selected an item then pressed shift & delete. It then still comes back.

leocg, No. Not all.
Mostly on my saved Speed dial web pages.
Some of my saved icons have different Searched for items. Weird.

Funny, if I enter a new word to Search, then click back to that page. the last word I searched for not there.
So it seems its holding onto Searched items from a while back.
