Help needed on how to get rid of 'googleads.g.doubleclick.net refused to connect.'

Hello all,

When trying to opt out of the google targeted adds I repeatedly get a pop-up that prevents me from completing the opt out process. It's accompanied by this ;-
googleads.g.doubleclick.net refused to connect.

Can anyone shed any light on how to get rid of this annoyance?

You probably need to turn off the ad blocker first, as it would block that site.
